| CRC Forum Security Seeing as Robert hasn’t yet I thought I had better warn everyone who uses this forum that their information isn’t secure and hasn’t been for months. A copy of every email sent from or through the forum arrives in my companies postmaster account and has done for the last six months or so. This means that we could have built up a list of everyone’s' email addresses, which could then be legally sold on to a spamming company. It also means we have received copies of the account information, including passwords, for everyone who has signed up during this time. While this is something we wouldn’t ever consider doing, if we are receiving copies then it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect other people will be receiving copies as well, who may want to profit from it. Another forum member brought up the topic of spy cookies being installed on users of this forums computers a few weeks ago. He was perfectly correct and I thought I would take a couple of mins to explain exactly what this cookie does for those who are interested. If you are running any form of spyware detector on your computer it should pick it up. The purpose of this cookie is to log which web pages you visit and then send this information back to a company which specialise in collecting information about your interests so that other companies can purchase the email addresses of people who have shown an interest in a particular area. Say you went to a couple of holiday booking website they would presume you are looking to go on holiday and then send you emails containing information about different holidays. The forum also logs both your email address and IP address and in many cases this can be used to find out your home address so that they can send you information through the post as well as by email. :P Cheers, Andy http://www.corporanda.com/cos-race.gif http://www.fierofactory.org |

| RE: CRC Forum Security Excellent, thought you would fall for it. Firstly, yes there was a bug in the subscription system on the Forum which meant that if you subscribed to a topic, then instead of the actual user who posted last getting the email, if they posted in the middle of the post, the last user in the tree got the topic subscription. As soon as this bug was discovered, topic and forum subscriptions were turned off. http://www.dcscripts.com/dc/dcboard....ng_type=search Secondly, this affected only TOPIC subscriptions, not user email addresses, logins, Private emails etc so you are basically bullshiting Andy, just to stir things up. I might point out that ANY forum and the majority of sites use cookies, your site included, however the CRC site has a privacy policy which is written into the terms and conditions of the company articles. Would you care to retract these comments, or are you prepared to furnish a postal address to enable me to continue this discourse through legal channels?

| RE: CRC Forum Security Seeing as it's been raised; the Fiero Factory forum isn't my forum it's Fiero Factories forum, I only built it. It's primarily there for owners of Fiero Factories cars but I thought other might want to use it as well seeing as the technology is there. I didn't expect it to have such a negative effect on some people, after all there are other kit car forums that don't receive the same abuse. As four CRC members this year alone have emailed me asking if I would consider being but forward to run the CRC forum I thought a choice would be welcomed.
