Beware sva rule!!

Re-test today at L.Buzzard , failed.*# *#

Apparently there seems to be some confusion on wheel projection outside the body plan of the car.The old way ie. a plumb bob from the top of the wheel arch is now not correct.
Bear with me and I`ll try to explain the mehtod used by L.Buzzard.
Take a horizontal line from the centre of the wheel hub using spirit level.Anything below this line is deemed exempt.
Any part of the wheel rim projecting outside of any part of the body above this line will now fail!!This means that the front valance on the cobra is approx 1-2 inches too narrow to cover the wheel rim, even with XJ6 wheels on the front they still stick out.In reality the only wheel capable of passing is the Jag. narrow "get you home" spare and this would fail on tyre rating.
If you check your car the area in question is just above the front indicator area where the bodywork turns in.
Two inspectors had differing opinions on this and one did not even know about the ruling,so if he`d tested me first time around I wouldn`t have had any trouble. What is even more irritating is that I know of 3 cars , all AK`s, who have passed sva at Derby in the last week or so without any trouble on the front wheels and with identical wheels and tyres to mine.
The tester did say he found this ruling odd and we even looked at a Toyota import that was to be tested after me and although the front wheels were marginal the rears would fail.He is calling the dvla to get clarification on this issue and is due to call me back to let me know the outcome , if it`s upheld then very few cars , production or kit will pass.
On the bright side everything else, brakes , emmisions etc. were fine.

If this ruling is enforced then I would appear to have a car that is never going to pass sva. at least not at L.Buzzard as there are no wheels slim enough to get through.

For anyone thinking of sva in near future then I would avoid L.Buzzard.Certainly until this mess gets cleared up.

Finally to round it all off they won`t re-test `til Thursday next week!!

Tony, off to get pi**ed.

RE: Beware sva rule!!

So, does that mean we'll all end up having to submit vehicles with recessed wheels......like an old COMMER VAN?????????

Geez, I'm showing my age!

RE: Beware sva rule!!

I had the same prob with a Dax at Nottingham yesterday (Tuesday), but in my case it was more likely due to the fact that to get the front indicators through the min. height rule i had "Wound up" the front suspension which pushes the wheel further out.
After adjusting the tracking so that the car had massive toe in and altering the top wishbones position by removing the camber shims the car then passed, but it was close. I think ,if i'd used the Dax "SVA Indicators" things would have been OK from the start.
