Dax Kit Car, Rolling Chasis Ordered!

I have now ordered my First Cobra replica kit car. It's been a long time waiting! Including a mountain of research and book purchasing!

I went over to Dax and had a Test drive/ factory tour and was really impressed by their kits and the final build show car. I felt really welcome too and was overwhelmed by the way in which everyone there was willing to help and pass on advice, truly a top bunch of Guys!

The first time I walked into the show room and saw the Cobra sat there, I looked at it thinking to myself how the hell am I going to build one of those! Then when a started to realise I had all the tools and most of the skills and a father that more than makes up for any gaps in my abilities/knowledge I didn’t have to do too much thinking after that.

What can I say about the Test drive, when the Rush was moved out of the way to allow the Tojeiro out of its cage it was finally fired up with a loud blunderbuss style bang, followed by a gargling drone that was truly awesome in presence! As it slowly edged its way outside the side pipes were pumping out exhaust fumes like a raging bull. Then finally after being strapped in thinking to myself its surprisingly comfortable as we slowly proceeded to the first corner, then it hit me the acceleration "Jesus H Christ" I thought to myself, all this waiting and I am going to die in a Cobra before I get to build one! Seriously though the kick in the rear put the MB game Buckaroo to shame! Then reassuringly it dawned on me that the test pilot new exactly what he was up to, when he perfectly and safely I may add showed what the Cobra was all about, on a taxable road anyway! The handling and ride comfort was perfect, no bumps, no rolling a perfectly comfy ride considering your almost sat on the rear axle with the low profile tires.

I couldn’t stop smiling after I got out of the car/ partly due to the fact I had frozen it into that shape, when it finally defrosted and I could hold a bic without drawing only sideways lines I got down to business!

I have put the order in for a De Dion Rolling chassis, and will hopefully put the order in for the body a few months after the build commences. Time/ schedule willing!

Whilst there I also managed to source a LT77 gearbox which should do the job nicely when hanging off the back of a Rover V8 3.5l - which I still need to find.

So all in all I just wanted to say a big thanks to the guys at Dax:thumb: , and I look forward to being able to post on these forums with some technical questions! I’m going to have to look into proper forum membership too!

Congratulations of the first step. Get prepared to have you wallet raped and spending many hours dreaming of the day when you finally fire up the beast and get out on to the road !!

I am currently having a new 3.5L RV8 built for me and will have an early 3.5 SD1 engine spare that would need a rebuild. If you are interested in taking that route, I am sure that we could come to some arrangement.

Paul

Congratulations on the first of many steps on the road to cobra ownership

You will find that between the factory, The one and only Brooksey and this forum there will not be a job you can-not do for get information on.

And Paul B say be prepared to get your wallet well and trully abused.

Re: Dax Kit Car, Rolling Chasis Ordered!

Thanks for all your offers and info so far! I am certainly on the prowl for al Cobra bits and bobs so offers are good

Major things I still need that I may not/can't purchase from DAX will include a rover V8 3.5l V8 engine and there certainly a few things I would consider that you have (V8 BJC/Brian) i.e. side pipes, alloys, Two single roll cabs with rear brace. Pm when they are on the market.

Paul, thanks for the offer I am certainly keeping my eyes out for something of that sort, condition depending i.e. have you had it running, has it driven enough miles to go to mars and back etc. I was hoping to keep expenditure on rebuilds to a sensible level at this stage as I may change the engine at a later date or upgrade it as I go along, besides I’ve still got a fair few payments ahead Kit wise. So am looking for something that with a moderate rebuild can get the wheels rolling (preferably not bedrock style). If you have the details to hand I would appreciate having a look

Andy, I’m in Torbay, Paignton to be precise for my holidays and long weekends but during working hours I am stuck in Buckinghamshire which isn't a bad thing if the need ever arises requiring me to pop into DAX to supply the Build HQ (Devon) But it’s always good having a peek at others pride and joy!
