Carbs or EFI

The rebuild of the Rover V8 3.5l EFI is coming on, the block is now being inspected and measured to see what work needs to be done machining wise/ what parts need to be changed.

After this has been done I will be looking into getting either carbs or doing something along the EFI route.

So far I have come to some surface thoughts either way, thinking that the EFI route will be a smoother ride, however not half as decent sounding (if using the EFI that came with the engine) or going for a Weber 500 carb setup which will be easier to do and sound nicer. Performance between the two is I believe negotiable? Am not necessarily after a BHP monster not on this engine anyway. (being my first build I am still learning)

Has anybody got examples of either/ both of what they have decided to do and would/ wouldn’t change? (Pics, links and costing will be greatly appreciated)

By far the easiest route is to stick with efi as you have the parts already. When you feel the need for some more power then you can ditch the ecu and flapper box and move to a megasquirt ecu (selling your old ecu and flapper airflow meter on ebay should finance this). If you want to move to a bigger capacity engine at a later date then the megasquirt will be able to handle any power upgrade. If you need any more info on megasquirt either pm me your e-mail address and any questions or/and check http://www.replica-cobra.co.uk/

Hi,

Can,t comment to much on the RV8 as I don't know that much about them but with regard to carb or EFI it's a case of EFI is smoother and potentially better fuel economy but (IMO) the sound of a carb is far better.

Guess it comes down to personnal taste and opinions and what you are actually looking for

And you can hear your carb over your exhausts.
