Wet dream

Interesting find in the paper this weekend - there's a simple formula to estimate aquaplaning speed.....
Speed (mph) = 9 x square root of the tyre pressure (psi)

Our cars are light & running on wide tyres, so if you take say 20psi as a typical Cob tyre pressure,
Speed = 9 x 4.48 = 40mph

This is the approx speed to initiate it. The vehicle speed needs to drop to about 7.2 x square root of the tyre pressure for it to stop

groan...

Isnt theory a wondeful thing!!
No reference to tyre tread design/depth/water clearance abilities, water depth, camber of wheel/ toe in/out.
Reminds me of Dr Heinkel (the german aircraft designer), who put many hours of drawing and calculation into analysing the aerodynamics of a bumblebee.
Dr Heinkel conluded that a bumble bee should not fly.

The humble bumble bee, oblivious to this hard science; flies on regardless...

Easy tiger.... it did say it was an estimate. I think it's realised that a more definitive answer needs more input but the estimate is allegedly close enough to make people think.
