Coil Spring Manufacturers

Hello,

Hope someone can help me - I am after a pair of coil springs for my Mark II Sumo. Tony at Pilgrim has let me wait 5 weeks before he tells me he can't get me any (not impressed!) and has told me to source my own springs. So, someone on this web site must know where I can buy some coil springs directly from a manufacturer, made to order. I have the dimensions and the poundage. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

Demon Tweaks flog loads of different makes and sizes. Check out their website. (They usually take a couple of days to get them in).

I know what you mean about Pilgrim....the standard anwser is "It will be in next week" (They just don't mention the other 8 weeks in between!)

Regards,

Pete

Try a Google search for "coil springs" there seems to be plenty of choice

Merlin or Europa might also be able to help.

Hi Chris

I had a set of rears made by Scorpion racing in November last year.

You can tell them exactly what lb you need and the guys father makes them to order. He only needs the original car fit and will custom them around that. I paid £95 for the pair, would recommend them.

Out of interest I have a v6 sumo running on Cortina gear, would like to know what dimensions you have opted for?? especially for the front

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your quick response. Gazza, could you please tell me what springs you ordered, dimensions and poundage etc. as I have a V6 Cologne engine 2.8 in a Pilgrim Mark II sumo. It's the front pair that I want. At the moment it sits very high at the front and looks odd. I have Spax adjustable shocks all round and would like to lower the front.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris

This is where i was trying to pick your brain.

I ordered the rears, cortina diameters but 320mm long and at 250lb's.

The fronts had been replaced just before i got the car and it was sitting to high at the front. After fitting the new rears the car set level but too high off its arches.

I then cut the very bottom coil off all 4 springs to sit the car down ( now about 4-5 cm off the arches) I also have spax's all round.

What I dont know is what poundage the previous owner had brought for the fronts!!

You can see from the photos it now looks (and drives excellent) It did tend to bounce alot before I adjusted it all!!

Give me a shout if you need further info

Cheers

Hello Gazza, Tony from Pilgrim told me they need to be 12.5" long and 300lb, 3.5" internal diameter and about 5" external. Are these measurements all I need to order some from the firm you got yours from. Could I have their phone number please.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris

He told me that also, although it was 250lb (but mine is a mk1 on cortina gear).

if you put 12.5 inch springs in there with even a higher poundage the car is going to sit higher at the back than mine (thats its ford based)

Hence once i got the springs I have had to cut the bottom coil off.

I have dug out the invoice from a previouse owner who fitted the fronts in 2004. They where cortina springs from Pilgrim (no poundage given)

Scorpion can make the springs, I just informed him of the original vehicle ie cortina an de knew the dimensions of the pig tail etc. Then made them to my poundage.

If your local you can measure the distances and compare but what I would agree on is 300lb in the rear. I know by cutting mine down I have increased the lb's but alittle more would have been better

Cheers
