Gear Lever Can any help here? Being fiscally challenged, (tight) can anyone pass on the dimensions of the cranked 427 gear lever? As I have made most items for the Cob I want to have ago at this. Overall height and angle of the set in the lever would be useful, and any other dimension you can take off it would be a great help. Don’t worry about the reverse lock out lever dims. The lever will fit a Tremec TKKO. Thanks again.

Gear Lever Come on you lot, someone must know the dimensions, I have seen pics on the site with some of you with this gear lever. I will swap these details with the details of how I managed to get a set of the Lucas L542 square rear lights with amber top indicator lens.

Don’t do this unless you are confident and have a steady hand. Strip down the light and grind out with a drebble or whatever you have the centre of the top half of the lens. Take it very slowly and a bit at a time leaving just the sides. If the wife/girlfriend ask “what are you doing” for gods sake don’t say “cutting up a pair of £95 brand new rear lights if you want to retain any balance left on you credit card, because if you can cut up new rear lights she can also spend an unnecessary amount on unnecessary items in the shops. You should be left with a red lower section and just the sides of the top half. Then measure the thickness of the amber lens you are going to use, I found Lucas L694 worked out perfect. File carefully of the remaining sides this amount so when the new amber bit is grafted on the faces are level. Make a card template of the shape of the lens you need from the modded one and transfer this to the amber one. If you are careful you will see from mine that you can even get the Lucas marking to show. Cut out the amber lens and leave at least 3-5mm over. Tape the new amber lens in position on the cut up one and fettle the sides till the lens fits flush without any gaps. Tape this in place and then use caulking or similar to seal any gaps on the out side of the fitting. Turn the lot over and get it level. Mix up a clear or slightly tinted amount of GRP resin; mix in the hardener very carefully not to make any bubbles. Fill the new lens so it covers the joint between the grafted amber lens and old fitting. When dry carefully shape the new amber lens to match the existing shape. Rub down with 1500 w&d and then with a spot polisher polish the lens back up to a shiny finish. All that is left to do is to make a lamp holder for the rear and ensure the light doesn’t bleed into each other. Sorry it’s short but it’s difficult to explain. The car will be on the road soon hopefully so you could have a look then. Last edited by Bigblock; 07-08-07 at 10:21 PM.
