SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 Yep, I'm finally filling in the form and sending it off today, which means that I'm now comitting myself to finally finishing the build which feels like it dragging it's heels. If I had know I would go 2,500 quid over budget and spend the best part of the every weekend for the last 2 1/2 years lying on my garage floor then I may well have reconsidered taking on a project that I knew nothing about, I didn't even know my big end from my crank. I can however thank my lucky stars that my todo list is finally reduced to the size of a very small list of not much to do except fit the Pilgrim SVA Kit and ensure the fuel tank is full. Whilst I wait for the Pilgrim kit to arrive I thought I'd better fill in the SVA1 form that's been on my desk for a very long time gathering dust. I have a few questions that I thought I'd air on the forum as I'm sure others have filled these in before. First thing; Question 9, Vehicle Class, Which boxes need to be ticked? I know my name and address so that's Question 10 sorted. Next Design weights;Axle 1 ,2 , Gross & Train weights??? Are these the total weight under which the components operate? or the actual weight of front/rear axles? I thought they measured all this as part of the test? Max Road speed & Max Revs? I know they use the road speed to check your tyres are ok, Would they believe me if I put 70 {-} And the Revs are used to check the Db level of the engine exhausts. Are the figures 130MPH and 3500 Revs reasonable? :tu Thanks Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif

RE: SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 Dan, Vehicle class is category A (question 8 I think). Have a look on TotalKitCar.com for examples (here: http://www.totalkitcar.com/images/sv...mpleted_p1.gif) Give Tony Holmes a call at Pilgrim. He'll give you the axle weights that you need. As for max road speed & engine power, I put similar figures. I believe the Rover's max power output is at around 5500 revs. Good luck with the test. Tony B

RE: SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 Dan, Pilgrim should be able to give you the answer to all of these, you're right - the max road speed is so they can check your speedo goes round far enough and your tyre rating is right (I think I put in 150mph for this, with ZR tyres and a speedo that goes up to 180 this was fine). The max revs one is so they can work out what revs to do the noise test at - I think I recall they do it at 2/3 the revs that you get peak power output at - make sure this isn't some super-resonant point in your exhaust!! (I think I put in about 4000ish for this - with an underslung exhaust this was no problem too) Stuart PS What exactly is a pilgrim SVA kit - is this a replacement for foam and duct tape??

RE: SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 The SVA Kit believe it or not, Is a collection of parts that you swap over for the test. Once the test is complete you unswap and send them back to pilgrim. I believe Items to swap are Fuel filler cap, Mirrors, Imp Hinges, bonnet locks & Windscreen washer jets. The whole affair Just goes to prove that some aspects of the SVA are a complete waste of time... Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif

| RE: SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 The Pilgrim Gang must be out enjoying the sunny weather as they arn't answering the phone. Tony, What did you put down as your Axles wieghts, As we both have the same engine chassis, I'm sure they will be the same figures... | RE: SVA1 Form : Sumo 3.5 Just so others who do a search on Sumo Design weights, the values supplied by Pilgrim are: Axle 1 : 600Kg Axle 2 : 650Kg Gross : 1250Kg Train : 1750Kg Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif |
