Withdrawal symptoms and Enviro-MENTALISTS

Withdrawal Symptoms

My Cob has been at the painters for nearly two weeks now and I don't know what to do with myself. I'm going to have to find a new hobby after this is finished as I can't sit in on an evening and listen to bloody Coronation Enders and whatever drivel er-indoors is watching. I know these things are never finished but I reckon on the nights I can't go for a spin I'm going to have to build something else. Can't be another car as I have no room and the bank account is shot to bits ... any suggestions?

Enviro-MENTALISTS

I went to a wedding on Saturday and the subject of my cobra build came up in conversation (my wife never thought I'd get this far and now quite likes telling people how clever I am ). Most people were quite interested and usual questions came out around MPG, colour scheme, how fast etc. Then came the inevitable tree-hugger, "Are you not concerned about your carbon footprint?". Now bearing in mind this wedding was someone who works for my wife, I felt I couldn't dive down this persons throat. I gave a measured response which equated to "This whole co2 emissions thing causing global warming is bollox IMHO". "What evidence do you have that co2 emissions are causing global warming?". "I read it in the paper and saw it on the telly". "So what's the compelling FACTS then?" ------ "Errrrrrrrrrr, don't really know to be honest, but if the worlds governments say so it must be true".

Is it only me that this attitude completely p*sses off or what? Is everyone so completely brainwashed that they can't work things out for themselves anymore? Why isn't all this crap being challenged and found out for the stealth taxing that it is?

Have a look at this - http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...Gw8&refer=home

RANT OVER ... Thank you, feel better now.

Chris Davies, a British member of the European Parliament, is proposing one of the most-extreme measures -- a prohibition on any car that goes faster than 162 kilometers (101 miles) an hour, a speed that everything from the humble Honda Civic on up can exceed. He ridiculed fast cars as ``boys' toys.''

I was asked recently what I was going to do to reduce my carbon footprint and I replied that as I rarely ever walked through raw carbon then I wouldn't be leaving a carbon footprint anywhere, quite confused the poor bloke I must admit

You should have asked the Prius owner to justify the amount of energy that went into producing his car and the amount that will be needed to recycle it once it gets scrapped.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the overall cost and energy used in producing and running this car over it's average life was actually more damaging to the environment than a Land Rover discovery V8 was.
I know which one I would rather drive.

We had a debate in the pub the other night about Global warming as a friend of mine went to the live earth concert. He couldn't answer any of my more taxing questions about the myth but just said he had heard about in the papers and on TV.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the BBC extremely biased towards the global warming issue?

Craig.

I had the misfortune of listening to ex-US vice president Al Gore the other day banging on about these Live Earth concerts he's arranged. Why didn't any of the interviewers ask him how he got to the UK from the US and how all of the performers got to the various gigs around the world? On bloody aeroplanes Mr Gore - you fool. And what about the gigantic electricity bill for the lights and sound systems and the gigantic clean up operation afterwards where all the rubbish would end up in landfill?

Quite how anyone from the US can go on about carbon emissions baffles the sh*t out of me.

Whatever happened to the 1980's scare of acid rain ruining the world, have they forgotten about that one?

What happened to the 80's threat of another impending ice age? That seems to have been forgotten too.

And I haven't heard anything about the Ozone layer for at least 10 years.

Of course Global Warming is a load of old BolXXX but anything that makes people understand and start to think about how finite the worlds resources are must be a good thing surely? The oil will not last forever ...fact.... and if it takes scare tactics to make joe public understand then so be it.

Petrol is there to be burnt and what car can burn petrol as efficiently as a cobra?

What are we supposed to save the petrol for?
To put it in a jar in a museum for future generations to look at?

Your right. Oil will not last forever and we should be looking for alternatives. Likewise I think recycling is a good thing and the sooner we can do away with land fill sites the better. Clearly Nuclear power is the way forward over oil, gas and coal burning power plants.

What annoys me is the way the Government see it fit to tax everybody as much as possible in the name of the environment. If everybody started using electric cars tomorrow and using solar heating then they would just introduce new taxes to compensate. Probably a tax on wearing clothes or having your hair cut.

Britain is a true Nanny state and having fun will be the next thing to be taxed and stopped

Like the smoking ban, I am a non smoker and personally welcomed the ban, but I still think it goes against the rights of the individuals involved to tell them they can't smoke anywhere but outside or in their own homes.

This country stinks and the majority of people living here seem blissfully unaware that they are being led down the garden path with complete lies about how there existence is destroying the environment.

Craig.
