Squeaking rear brakes

Got a Jag rear end with inboard discs and suffering from a loud high pitch squeal when braking at low speed.

Tried EBC Green pads and that didn't cure it so now have Ferodo DS2500 pads fitted and it still makes a racket !!!

Thus, l figure it isn't the pads and need an "anti squeal shim kit" or something similar.

Any ideas/cures gratefully received.....

Have you tried gently applying the handbrake as you drive at these speeds to see if that cures it?

Hi Beeb,
Have you tried coating the back of the pads with Coppaslip? Usualyy cures the problem. If not Hermetite do an aerosol spray called Anti brake squeal (Or similar)

You can buy an anti squeal material to stick on the back of the pads
at most good factors or car parts shops.

as Dave says, try pulling on the handbrake, with jag IRS the little (crap) handbrake calipers are often the culprit; if so undo th emounting bolts for the handbrake calipers, clean, copper grease and re assemble; had same problem on my old RAM a few years back.

Driven the Cob to work today and did as suggested - used the handbrake gently at low speed and the squeaking stopped.

This tells me it ISN'T the handbrake and definitely the actual pads.

Where can l buy this "anti squeal material to stick on the back" and what is the product/brand called?

That test tells you it is the handbrake calipers if the squeaking stopped on handbrake application; in other words there is nothing wrong with your main brake calipers at the rear.
So now you need to buy some copper grease (coppaslip is a common tradename) and put some on the back of the handbrake pads and some on the bolts that the handbrake calipers are mounted to the main calipers with. Job done.

What they all said - it's the handbrake.

Try just prising the copper pull-off "legs" apart a touch, to lift the pads off the discs just a fraction (maybe 0.5mm more is all). Also, if you don't have then fitted, fit some pull off springs to both actuating arms.
