Black with White Stripes...

Guys,

Facing the usual dilema once again of what colour to paint the AK , however I think after four years I am starting to come to a conclusion.
I am going to go for TVR Moonraker black with white stripes, (I think) but seem to recall seeing a picture on the CRC website of this type of colour combo. Can anyone point me in the direction of this picture, or does anyone have any general pictures of this colour combo they can post?

Regards,
Martyn

will look nice; only downside is a black car shows every mark/grain of dust; no problem if you like polishing!!

Shouldn't be too bad with Moonraker black as it has a metallic flake in it which looks dusty even when it's clean....In a nice way though.

White stripes though???? It will look like an Everton mint. Silver stripes will go well with the black as the metallic of the silver will fit in better if you know what I mean. IMHO of course.

Thumbs up paint it

I have painted loads of cobs, TVR's and plastic cars in my past and I said I would never have a black one of my own.

Guess what happens, they look so good in black I couldn’t resist it and I painted mine black.

Look after it, rinse first, wash gently. Wax with a thin wax and don’t waste a load of money on gimmick waxes, I still use a trade wax and it gets it as good as the best.

DONT WASH OR WAX IT IN THE SUN WITH A HOT GRP BODY it will burn the wax on the paint.

However no matter how good the paint job is GRP is still a cr*p medium to work on and it will still move under the paint. Don’t let anyone tell you any different, I have worked on most of them.

Best advice I used to tell customers wanting to know what colour to paint it, .......

Your first choice is usually the best and then tell all the advisors to duck off and have it the colour you want it.

(I'n not good at takin photos so excuse the qualitity)

I think Dave may have a point; white on black might look a bit much.

My Sumo is in 2K high solids superblack, (metallic black looks like its covered in dust)no stripes yet but a pure b@$tard to keep clean and shows every mark and polishing swirl, I agree with bigblock about the GRP being crap to work with, and the dangers of washing when hot. but I done mine in black because it certainly sets off the chrome and the stunning shape of the Cobra, and I love polishing it ,sad eh

Stripes may look ok in chrome/silver but not white its too much of a contrast.

Only my opinion though which is probably worth f#*ck all.

Id agree with bigblock; trust your instincts and go with your first colour; after all its your dream, and youve got to clean it LOL
Ive yet to see a painted glass car that hasnt moved a little; even production glass cars with injected resin (like Lotus) show movement after a few years and some heat/cold..all three cobs Ive had have shown some sign of movement.

On the keeping the car clean front, Ive been converted by a valeter friend to the new style synthetic chamois leathers, much more absorbant and easier to get a good shiny finish than the proper leather.
If I go to a dusty venue, when I want to clean the car afterwards, I gently sponge off the dust with a nice wet sponge (trying to control it so it doesnt go into the cockpit-yuk) and then chamois it down, its a nice quick and scratch free way of getting the dust off without a full wash wax session, and if you go over the car a couple of times with the chamois wringing it out in clean water as you go, its amazing how nicely the car comes up; no streak marks water spots or anything; as BB says not in the sun though.

Friend's Dax is Metallic black (with no stripes) - it looks great. Miss out the stripes for yours though. Lots of cars without stripes now and it'll save an extra difficult decision. Option number one - do 'nowt'.

Ours is black gel coat and yes, it shows the dust like mad. I got a giant dust brush from Frosts on the internet (California Duster?) having seen a cob owner using one at a show. A quick 30 seconds flick round and it looks pretty good.

If you want to break up the black a bit, how about white number disks (not sure of their proper name)?
One on bonnet, boot and each door/wing.

The wife just bought a black CLK. She now has to learn how to wash a car by hand as opposed to doing her lipstick while in the drive through carwash.
