Cobra front outer wing repeaters

Hi to everyone,

Can anyone tell me, with current regulations, if it is obligatory to fit front outer wing repeaters as you get on so many cobra kits these days. I notice that the Kirkhams cars don't have them, (as per the original 60's cars)- do these cars have any problems with SVA etc?

Many thanks

Superarnie

Yes you will require side repeaters for the SVA, however if you mount them on the side vents ( nice big lamp units so they stick out a bit) then its easy for them to fall off afterwards ! without leaving nasty holes in the bodywork.
Most Kirkhams are stateside so dont require them I believe but dont quote me on that.

To pass SVA yes, you need side repeaters.

There's nothing stopping you however from then removing side repeaters once SVA is passed, although I would make sure that the indicators that you have fitted on the front and rear of the car are easily seen from the side also.

The favourite method of blanking the side indicator hole is to cover the hole with either a "427" or a "Powered by Ford" badge. As I couldn't find any "Powered by BMW" badges for my last build or even any "Powered by Lexus" for the current builds I'm using some attractive stainless steel mesh with the side indicators fitted, inserted into the side grille openings.

Once SVA is passed remove side mesh and replace with the standard s/s grilles.

Please remember that replacing the side repeaters with anything emitting any form of blue light ( ie Halfrauds go faster gear) similar to anything seen in Fast and Furious 1, 2 or 3 will lead to ridicule and possibly a good slapping. Angel Eye headlights, for example, are only barely condoned.

Cheers,

Tony

PS Welcome to the madhouse.

You need side indicators for the SVA, from memory they also need to be visable from 15 degrees of the body. It's a dead give away its a kit, don't know how Kirkham could get away without ?

Arnie. You will need them for SVA. (I have heard of them being fitted in a false mesh in the side vents though)

The angeleyes aren't that bad, its the blue neons under the sidepipes that detract from the authenticity!! ( authenticity....Now thats a word I never thought I'd be using re Cobra's)

Cheers,

Tony

You could double sided tape them on for SVA just below the bottom of side vent opening, and thread wires through vent. Jobe done, easy off afterwards with no holes, and no messing with two lots of vent grills...give a lazy man a difficult job and hell find an easy way LOL...thats what Id do anyway

PS-whats an angel eye headlight then?

If your local MOT man knows what he is doing he will fail your car at every MOT if you do remove them.

http://www.ukmot.com/1-5.asp

I'd also like to see the insurance claim if you hit someone and they found out you had removed the side repeaters. Would they pay out? I don't think so.

Craig.
