Private Plate Valuation??

Guys

Any idea of how to get a realistic valuation of a plate?

I am thinking of selling the one on my car in favour of a pre 73 or timeless number dependant on the money I might get. I did get a valuation from one of the cherished number places but get the feeling they would take a large chunk of the proceeds as they have quoted the figure I would get rather than offering to sell for a fixed percentage of the final sale price

Its a V8 *** number

cheers
Andy

There are plenty of online companies Andy so that should give you an idea.
Much will depend on the suffix part which you obviously can't reveal for security reasons.
At the end of the day it's only worth what someone will pay for it - you might strike lucky and find a V8 owner whose initials match your plate, then again...

Hi,

What are the security implications with revealing the reg no?

Reason I ask is photographs of my Cobra (with registration number showing) have been printed in Cobra magazines and are in my members gallery on the cobra club.

Cheers

Paul

Yes I cant see there's much of a risk really; after all anyone could follow your car down the road and write down the reg number.
I'd say the best place to flog it is Ebay and on here, plus any pther sites with a lot of V8 engine users on (Mustang and Vette sites spring to mind) but you will need to say what the plate says; I doubt 'private plate beginning V8... will get you far!

Hope you sell it ok

In reality security risk is probably small but it used to be the case that you could apply for details of a driver who "hit me and then drove off without exchanging info". Once that was obtained the potential was there to steal the car.
I am not sure if it's still possible to obtain this information but some owners still black out the reg using Photoshop or similar.

Only plod can get that for you now; data protection act and all that.
IMHO if youre going to get robbed at home. best chance is the scumbags follow a likely looking car or bike when they see it out on the road; thats how the bike thieves operate, or go to an advertised vehicle and scope the joint out for a return visit later, or convince the owner youre a serious buyer, take a test drive and boot the owner out the car/off the back of the bike.

I doubt your reg on the net is going to do you much harm, unless somebody with a similar car gets a copy plate made then gets a load of tickets; likely with a mundano or similar, less so with something specialised like a Cob.
Even our countries high quality plod could tell a mundano from a cob when the scamera picture is viewed

No point hiding it at all. Every time you take the car out of the garage it is on display for the whole world to see.

If it says V8 NOB I bet Fat boy Northern would like it.
If it says V8 COB then I'd give you a grand for it.
I might even be tempted to pay that that much for V8 DAX.
Or £500 for V8 DBR. or V8 LOU

I'm tempted to buy W16 VRN ready for my lottery win though.

Simple and fastest answer would be to put it on eBay and see what it fetches.
If you do then post a link on here to it.

"Every time you take the car out of the garage it is on display for the whole world to see."

True Dave, but if you were a rascal intent on finding out this info would you prefer to sit in a cold layby waiting for a Cobra to appear or do a trawl on the web in the comfort of your own home?
DVLA has a form V888 which enables anyone to request details of a vehicles owner. Hopefully the declarations on the form are actually checked by them to ensure the applicant has just cause to have the info.

Private Plates

Whilst reading this thread I am reminded of a decent number that should be coming up next year. AC 08 RAC. Which can be rearranged to read A CO8RA C. Only suitable for a brand new cars though.

No I'm not stupid in forwarding this information, just thought someone might make use of it if its available.
