Renewing Car tax On-line

Hi,

I've just tried to renew the car tax for my cobra using the DVLAs' website www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc and things didn't go too well. Their checks failed to verify my insurance and my application has been banished from the website for the next 24hours.

I'm insured with Blackford Bloor and the insurance company is "Markerstudy", who's offices are apparently based in Gibralter! Are these people OK?

Has anyone else using this company been able to tax their car online?

I'll give the company a call tomorrow.....I'm just wondering if I'm the only one unable to renew online

Thanks,

Phil

I'm with Markerstudy through Backford Bloor and renewed on-line at the end of last month with no problems.

Could be your not close enough to the end of the month for our governments computers to cope, have had a similar problem renewing on line in the past, wouldn't mind if they spent any of it on the roads!

You can only tax your car on line within the last 14 days of the month. So try again today. Should work.

Mystery solved.....Markerstudy still had me insured under the chassis number, despite the paperwork from Backford Bloor showing the new registration number. All now sorted and very friendly people to deal with.

BTW I've now taxed the car online and a MOT wasn't required...is this right? or am I likely to get in trouble if stopped by the police. The cobra was SVA'd in September last year and is on an old "N" plate (1974?). At the DVLA inspection the DVLA chappie said that an MOT wouldn't be required for 3 years.

Cheers,
Phil

There is some confusion over rules interpretation on this which Kit Car Magazine is trying to clarify officially with DVLA and VOSA via Paul Jepson (he offers an SVA paperwork service). If Den Tanner sees this post, an official response may have been received by now.
