Handling Set-Up

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some tips and advice on setting up the handling on my Cobra. I'm running a Dax with a 350 SBC on Jag running gear with a Power-Lok diff and adjustable Spax dampers. I guess my problem (or to be more precise, where I think things could be better) are that it seems to initially understeer - followed by a rather rapid switch to oversteer. I think this is a tendency for all short wheel base cars?? but it is making rapid cornering interesting to say the least.

I've current got 2 clicks (from full back-off) on the dampers - so it's a little soft but with no body roll and tyre pressures of 22 psi all round.

Any suggestions as to where I can start to tweak things to improve the situation?

Thanks

RE: Handling Set-Up

If you are running 17" wheels and GAZ shocks.
Try the shocks on two full turns.
Try 18-20PSI tyre pressure.
Do you have the front camber set at 1 degree neg. at std ride height?
Do you have rear camber set at 0.5 degree neg?
Have you checked for alignment of the rear axle in relation to the front axle?
Do you have 0.5 degree of toe in on the rear axle?
Do you have 0-0.5 degree toe in on the front?

RE: Handling Set-Up

Thanks Dave,

I guess checking out the geometry is the first thing to do - otherwise no amount of tweaking the settings will improve things.

I live in SE London - so I suppose Cheng at Thunder Road would be the nearest guy who knows his stuff.

Thanks for your advice.

Regards
