Sva questions/receipts/parts etc

The situation is this...
I bought a rolling chassis about 7 months ago, complete with registration document which got sent addressed in my name, at my wife's family business/garage address. It has since re-addressed to my home, obviously in my name still.

All the receipts for the build until then were in the previous chaps name, he got as far as putting in the engine. But the latest receipts were addressed in my name but sme were delivered to the garage because of work commitments and/or lack of space at home for them. they are all still addessed in my name though.

A fellow NCC member is currently applying for Sva and has raised a interesting point, he says that he got a call from the sva man raising the question that not all receipts were in his address. However, he put the man right and he thought of my situation. I have 2 addresses and bought it 'half built'.

With this new info I rang pilgrim and they assured me that I would not need to show any receipts to sva but would build photos, the helpful chaps at Europa said the same and went further to say as long as I have had no help from a proffesional body in the build it is ok. If there is a consistancy of my name on the receipts any examiner would accept.

The last thing I need is a Q plate, so any other reassurance from the forum would be greatly appreciated.

Stu,
The matter of a "Q" plate, current year or age related plate is the responsibility of DVLA and not VOSA (SVA). As far as I understand (If has not been changed in the past year) as long as you use two major components from the donor vehicle you will get an age related plate.

You most certainly do need to submit the originals of your receipts to VOSA along with build photos before they give you a date for SVA. Just been through it in the last few weeks. If you have a receipt from the chap you bought the part built kit from surely you'll be covered?

Thanks Clive that is very helpful, and Kev it was just concerning me regarding the addresses. I think one of the questions on a form reads 'did you totally build this car without professional help'.
I have the receipts from his records, but no photo's though.

If there's any problem regarding lack of photots your first response should be that the requirement for photos has only just been brought in and they cannot therefore compel you to provide them from a build period prior to the date the provision became part of the regs.

I would also ensure I had a receipt from the previous owner (I'm sure it's in your bundle of paperwork if you look hard enough - computers can ake wonderful documents nowadays, so I've heard)

Wink

Looks like I will be ending up with a Q plate then, Its taken me so long to build the dam thing not sure photos had been invented then. since I started the old computer blew up taking any early photos with it anyway. Also brought, I now realise foolishly, my donor package is from pilgrim and have never seen the promised V5. Not that having a Q plate bothers me that much, I did read somewhere about it might be easier to get through an mot in the future with one, emissions, global warming, ( could do with some of that right now ) its not an excuse to tax us more and so on.

Good luck Stu hope you get it through ok.

One worry for me is I was thinking of sending it somewhere prior to the sva to get it checked over, would this then count as professional help?

Hi Steve,
Professional help consists of a company that does actual work on the car, advise and check overs are free from these regs.

I didn't need any photos or receipts for the SVA and didn't need to produce anything before the SVA.

I had to hand over my stash of receipts when I tried to register the car but no photos were required. All the receipts were returned afterwards.

There shouldn't be any need to have a Q plate in this day and age unless you really can't find a V5. Speak in private to some of the donor parts suppliers, Car builders, Scrappies Etc and see if you can buy a "car" with a V5 and get it registered in your name ASAP.
Also worth speaking to Paul Jepson as he will know all the in's and outs of registering a car.

Hi Craig, I have a v5 document for the donor car but my issue is the first part of the build was not carried out by me, and what questions could be asked by sva/dvla to varify the registration.... receipt addresses etc

I was requested to send receipts to DVLA along with proof of ID etc. I also had to send receipts to VOSA. They requested photos if I had them and I sent a small selection showing the kit evolving over time in the same position in my garage.

Everything was okay and I had no issues. All paperwork was returned at either the SVA test or when I got my tax disc.

Cheers...
