289 info

Can anyone share info on 289 kits that are available or any good links. The only one I know of is Hawk.
More along the lines of the FIA than the other models.
Anyone on here have an FIA 289?
Anyone know of any brought from the USA that has passed SVA?
Is there a manufacturer in the UK that offers a capable track chassis to suit the 289 shape?

Purely for interest only.....oh and to help near my post count to a 1000 before the New Year!

Hi Lee,
Hawk can supply the 289 Roadster, 289 FIA, 289 Le Mans or the Kirkham.

My favourite 289!!!

289 KMS/Lemans

I have built four Hawk 289's, really great cars. The Kirkhams are another league, but well worth it if you can afford the price. Interesting the initial cost of the body / chassis is very expensive but the build cost is the same as a GRP Hawk once you have the body / chassis.

Anyway, lets keep on dreaming!!

John

Hi Lee,

We had a member that used to come to our meet with an American Hitech 289 FIA it was a lovely kit, finished in ally panelling inside & done in a race style.
Don't know if he still owns it as he's not turned up since!

PS did Santa bring you a sack full of Cobra bits & pieces?

Merry Xmas Steve

Hi Lee

Yes they look lovely dont they!!

To answer yuor question, nobody in the UK offers a 289 shape with a truly track capable chassis as a kit; although Cheng at thunder road does a really nice 289 conversion of a donor RAM; and that chassis is close to a GD in track fitness (probably stiffer, but a lot less compliant) Ill see if I can find the link.

Have fun dreaming!!

Steve

One like the one below would be a tick in all the boxes!

John/ Clive do you have or have you had the upgraded MGB suspension on your cars? I've browsed the Hawk site and it looks like a decent upgrade. The fibreglass Hawk body would more suit than an aluminuim version, wonder if I could make one fit a GD floorplan

I forgot Chengs, will have a look now.

Steve, santa brought a lined heavy duty car cover so that I can grind away in the garage without all the dust getting caught up in my cotton car cover. A nice leather tool bag for the boot, windwings, sun visors and a scuttle mount convex rear view mirror. I'll be fitting these this evening
I've also managed to get the o/s alu vent fitted and it looks great. I didn't start the n/s as it took 4 evenings and I was hoping to take advantage of some dry weather over the holidays

Hope you had a good Xmas and all the best for the New Year to all

Hi,

Yes I only run the tublar stuff. The change I do now is run four pot hispec calibars / discs. Much better. I still generally run rear drums on the MG hawk's as the disc conversion needs a brake adjuster.

John.
