painting little stripes

hi all,
having decided on the colours for my impending paint job, i have painted a 18 scale model in the main colour but want to add stripes. the problem is i've tried samples, masking out the stripes with masking tape, but can't get a neat line once the masking tape is removed. it's like the paint is seeping under the tape. is there a technique or a particular type of masking tape i should be using. or should i get a quote from the sprayers

cheers ian

Hi Ian

You need to use a masking product known as 'Fine Line Tape', this will give you the sharpe edge that you require.

Fantastic!

I wanted to do the same thing before my Cobra got sprayed but I couldn't find a decent looking Cobra model.

Where did you buy that one?

What are the paint colours?

I opted for Mercedes obsidian black with Mercedes Brilliant Silver Stripes (2 fat stripes and 4 pin stripes)

Ian - when the time comes to stripe the real car, bear in mind that to look "right", they are not parallel, but tapered.

There is a diagram on the ERA cars (USA) site which shows the way they should taper, and it does work.

paul, the model is 'road signature' from one of the kit shows. i looked for a kysho which is a lot better but couldn't find one anywhere. the colours i've opted for after lots of trials are, yamaha diamond black and vauxhall astro silver. it was actually your car, which i saw at daves, which decided me on black and silver.
wilf. thanks i'll look at that later. got to get to work now.
