Road salt

I took the Cobra our for a spin for approx one hour on Sunday and was amazed at the lumps of road salt stuck to my alloys!

I have cleaned it all off but I was wondering if it is a good idea for me to jack one side of the car up as high as possible and hose down / pressure jet the underside of the card to get as much salt washed away as possible?

Thanks

Paul

If you intend doing this often then I'd advise smearing petroleum jelly over the entire inner of the rims (the bit inside of the main hub).

No it doesn't look pretty but it will stop the dreaded white salt dust that EATS them getting to where it wants lot go.

I use mine all year round and in all conditions.

Yes I do wash it down once in a while and WD/40 (or similar) underside nuts, bolts and threads every now and then.

Not a requirement to vaseline the rims on my car as the inner rims are painted. I did it once and everything from the road stuck to my rims and was a nightmare later.

Soapy water every now and then is all you need. Not had any issues in five years. Avoid wheel cleaner on any raw ali.

Did mine after our monthly meet on Sunday, no need to jack it up, just blast your hosepipe through the wheels onto the suspension, then through the front air vents and under the front/rear end, takes 5 minutes tops.

I use Mikes method. Hose it down asap with cold water. I do the wheels and chassis parts that I can get to. Whilst the water is running away from the rims I dowse a rag with WD40 and wipe everything chrome, alloy or stainless to get all the grime off. Winscreen surround, wipers, handles, undertray, light bezels. Finaly I dry the rims off with paper towel and wipe with doused rag. So far so good. The inside of the rims are getting a battering even with this method. They are laquered on the alloy (salt creeping in) so I am going to remove this to enable any marks to be polished out.....at some point. Takes 20 mins
