Hi all - anyone know what John Kerr's current price is for a Rolling Chassis + Body? (... and what the approx. waiting time is?)

Thanks,
Pete.

Pete, best you talk to John Kerr (01296-651985) really, it's been quite a while since I bought mine and I think prices may have changed by now.

Whatever the price is - it's too cheap!

Crendon Prices

Hi Pete,

When I ordered my chassis package back in October 2006 the Chassis Package was £5160. (this may have changed now). This figure includes the basic chassis (in itself is a work of art and closely replicates the original twin 4inch round tube Cobra chassis). You also get 'one off' front wishbones, steering arms, rear radius arms and pedal assembly. All are powder coated and include bushes and a nut and bolt kit. Also included are the steering rack and track rod ends, the upper and lower steering column sections and joints, brake and clutch master cylinders with brake balance mechanism and a brake pipe kit.

To the above you need to add your Jag reconditioned rear end and front hubs, calipers etc to make the chassis 'rolling'.

I also ordered the Body Package at the same time which was priced at £3180. This is a super accurate representation of a 427 SC body that John fits to the chassis for you. The package includes all the opening panels hinged and locked so you don't have to mess around getting them to align. The internal panels such as inner wheel arches, the transmission tunnel, and trimmed original flat bottomed 427 SC dashboard (with instrument apertures cut out) are also included and fitted. Plus the body comes with all the holes accuratley cut for lights, vents, exhaust exits etc.

There have been other threads on here raising the subject that Crendons are expensive, but you get an awful lot for your money, and many tasks other kit car manufacturer's leave up to the individual are fully sorted before you pick the rolling shell up. The initial 'hit' on the wallet is probably the hardest thing to get your head round, but I for one think that, averaged out, the Crendon is extremely good value for the money. I would say that though 'cause I'm building one.

As for the delivery period, you have to remember John Kerr builds every single chassis on his own so delivery times depends on how busy he is, and when he can fit the work in. I ordered mine in the October and picked it up in the following April which suited me.

If you go for the rolling chassis option, as do most, its abut £12k in 1 big dollop. But you will have the running gear fitted, pedals, brake lines, body aligned and bolted, steering complete, door bonnet and boot fitted and locked, internal ali panels, and dash, covered in leather. Its a big hit in 1 go, but the individual prices are set up so that unless you have a very good deal going on donor bits etc, there isnt much of a price difference for buying in stages. I'm currently saving up for a JK car, and having done the sums, there is ~ £1k price premium* for equivelent bits at this stage (although not much different if a rolling chassis in similar spec is bought from other top end manufacturers). All other bits on the crendon itinary are similar to any other cobra. IMHO its a cash flow issue not an overall price premium issue.

*I included the cost of hiring a trailer + petrol from Hants to go there and back to get the body aligned on the chassis. JK wont let you do it at home.

For me the only cobra chassis (real or replica) Ive seen that could possibly be admired almost as art are a RAM chassis, and possibly a GD; but each to their own; some people like Picasso after all!!

Dave, I think the view from the front of the Crendon chassis is a touch prettier, and whilst its strong and easy to work on its hardly a facsimile of the original!!! Its quite convincing in the engine bay with the body on...

pics my chassis (no 29) and Anthony from NZ's RAM (or was it Myles's)

I think the Crendon is probably one of the best Cobs short of a Kirkham that is in this country!

wow they all look impresive chassis', im glad i got a picture of the Ram chassis cos now i can stare at it till i get my ram .
the Crendon chassis looks heavy

for the money you might make (profit) on a kit you wouldn't start it. Most of us ( with a few exceptions ) don't go through all those emmotions for profit but for the love of building/owning a classic car. Am i right?
