sva regs on engine age and catalytic requirements

Hi,

I'm new to this game and just about to start getting the bits together for an AK cobra.

I've done most of the scrap yard runs and I'm now on the engine choice stage.

Can anyone tell me what the magic dates are for engines so that I don't need to have a catalytic installed to pass the SVA tests.

I'm looking for a chevy so any advice on what the best options are would be appreciated.

thanks

al

Al, try using the search button, "engine date catalytic" or something similar may find the answers you're looking for

Al - in all seriousness, if you are going to build a car then get hold of a copy of the SVA manual and read it. Then read it about three times more and some comprehension will begin to dawn. It will answer an awful lot of questions, and save you money by stopping mistakes.

Also, at the end of your build, you will be able to answer questions from folks just starting out......giving back a little to the forum, very worthwhile. Like this:

Dates are:

pre July 31st 1986 - 1200ppm, 4.5% CO2

Pre july 31st 1992 - 1200ppm, 3.5% CO2

post Aug 1st 1992 - cats needed.

Luck with your build.

I think you'll find that cats are only needed post Aug 92 if the vehicle is listed in the VOSA Emmisions Data Book (read production vehicles) Otherwise post 01st Aug 1997 is the date for Cat Limits According to my SVA Manual

There is a new version of the Kit Cars and the Law due out in the next week or so. A lot easier to understand than the SVA manual although it can be downloaded here. www.rootpeg.net/SVAMarch2004.pdf

Also pre 75 means no emission test so visual only at SVA.

once you have read the SVA manual 3 times light a fire with it or put it by the toilet paper holder lol. Seriously its a great help to the builder but some of it is utter smelly bulls stuff

You can disregard the first 100 odd pages or anything that pertains to Advanced SVA
