Pilgrim Sumo mk3 mods

Hi,

Just come in from the garage after cutting 8mm off my steering rack mounts and fitting a new steering column bush (from the inside)

I have also packed the rear wheel carriers 2mm, so the rear wheels have better road contact.

The car has now done approx 1,000 miles and the springs etc have settled in nice.

My next plan is to take it down to my local tuning & suspension specialist for the tracking to be checked.

Can anyone suggest an other small mod's worth doing before having the tracking set?

Spec: Pilgrim Sumo Mk3 - (chassis 2005) - SVA April 2007 - Granada based - Chevy V8 350ci - Tremec 5 Speed.

Thanks
Dave.F

Dave,

The list is quite long and I can't type that fast

Packing the rear carriers is not a good idea as this places quite a strain on the bolts and the lip on the hib carrier is required to help the load.

The Pilgrim diff carrier is a bad design as it allows to much movement of the nose under acceleration.

The rear toe also needs correcting.

Even after doing the steering mod there is loads more you can do to the front.

A lot depends on what you're happy with but once you've been in a well sorted car you will notice a huge difference to one that has only had a few or no mods done.

Having the suspension set up is not as easy as it sounds as without all of the above mods there is no real refernce point to work from. If they were to set the front up by using the rear then the whole lot would be out and vica versa.

Hi G,

Will I be able the correct the rear toe myself?

By the way, the steering bush trick (fitting for inside) worked a treat, thanks for that one

Cheers

I managed to sort out the rear toe issue but whether you can depends on what equipment you have available and your confidence at tackling the job. Gareth has a mill and the skill to use it so he used that the sort his car out. I have a welder and some files so used them!

What you really need is a method of measuring what you are doing, without that it is all total guess work!

Here is a link to the toe issue

Hi Noel

You must admit that after a ride in mine you did say that you wished you'd bought an AK.
