Ian,

I think I see, however the picture shows a manual box and then states standard grade ATF...... am I missing something? a few people think the viscosity is to thin?

ZF boxes as fitted to a lot of BMW use ATF. It may be Auto Trans Fluid, but that is what these manual boxes have been designed to run with.

If you have one of the older boxes, I think they use something like EP80 gear oil but don't quote me on that. Funny, I was searching the net for the oil for my Borg Warner Super T10. Still looking.

More than one kind of auto box fluid around. Dexron 2 as Chris states is the right grade.

Yes I agree that you should run ATF; my T5 had Dextron in it; much better.

If people are telling you ATF is too thin, they dont know much about these type of boxes; they probably want you to put EP90 in it LOL That would knacker it!!
The drain is a taper, as Chris says should be self sealing, but you can also wrap a little PTFE tape; the PTFE wont get in the box; itll still leak though!!
