RE: 17s on a pilgrim sumo can it be done?

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your build. There is no reason why the pilgrim won't take 17" wheels as with lower profile tyres the rolling diameter is not that different from the other wheels.

good luck :tu :tu :tu :tu :tu :tu

Sibley

I wouldn't recommend 17s on a Sumo, a friend of mine put them on and the ride was terrible, you feel every bump and pot hole however you set the shocker adjustments.

I would go for 16s and gain the advantage of the extra depth of rubber.

17s on Jag suspension is fine but not on Sierra or Granada.

RE: 17s on a pilgrim sumo can it be done?

Hi,

You say you're on a budget so before you start I would look into the cost of insuring the finished car. If you are under 25 it can be very scary ;( Real shame to build the car and then not be able to drive it.

Cheers,
Andy

Mike; What's it got to do with Sierra/Granada suspension? Sumos’ don’t use Sierra suspension so it's Sumo suspension that is responsible.

RE: 17s on a pilgrim sumo can it be done?

Hi I built a sumo when I was 19/20 and was great to build even then. I fitted Dax side vents but 15 inchers at the time lokked fine. Electric blue paint and my own dash just to makw it different. I'll send a picture if you like?

Insurance was not to bad at the time about £600 fully comp but we are talking 11 years ago.

Good luck

Graham

The Pilgrim web-site might be out of date and they now don't supply Sierra based kits, but the car in question was Sierra 2.0 ltr based and the Granada based kits aren't much difference to the Sierra.

Why don't you stick to playing with your dinky toys, instead of sticking your nose into my posts.

The new member needs positive input, not the negative crap that you post.

RE: 17s on a pilgrim sumo can it be done?

The Q plate thing....
Brfore the days of SVA, all kit cars which did not retain the original vehicle chassis (floorpan) got a Q registration.
Since SVA, you have the chance to get an age-related plate:

All new parts means you can get a current year registration.

Sufficient items off one donor car gets you a reg of the same year as the donor.

Too many items from different donors means you get a Q.
Note that re-constructed production cars (eg a good one made out of 2 or more damaged ones) also get a Q when re-registered, so this is where some of the anti-Q stigma stems from.

With a non-Q registration, you can do a cherished transfer of a number the same age or older than the donor, but no newer.

With a Q, you cannot transfer plates (at the moment) but there are plans to make "Cherished Q" plates available in the near future.

Hope this helps,

Simon

RE: 17s on a pilgrim sumo can it be done?

Hello , and welcome.

I have 17s on my pilgrim sumo and the ride is fine, a little hard maybe but it's worth it because they look so much better.
