Buying a Cobra

Hi Guys & Gals

I've made up my mind on the type of car i want, I went and saw a couple up north, but not what I was after. Can some one tell me if all cars should be sva'd? I was invited to the midlands meet by dave large, this week end and got some questions answered. I have seen a southern Roadcraft 1974 just come available on pistonheads. I have spoken to the owner and he tells me he used to be a member of the cobra club, I was wondering if any one new of the car? It looks nice in the pics that he sent me but there is none of the engine bay. I was hopping to find a car with a Chevy or ford motor, money is tight and as my Nan always said "beggars cant be choosers"

Russ

That ad is just ssooooooo spooooky, take a look in my gallery and you will see what I mean !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only difference is mine has the Chevy engine.
They are very good cars and the price is about right, maybe a tad high for a rover engine, but then the advertised price is always a guide and a starting point to haggle..

At the top of the page just above your first post you should have a blue band across the screen. On the top row left to right it reads Home, Forums, Build Blogs, Classifieds then Gallery.
Click on that, then members galleries, then on 'A', mine is the 3rd one across showing the front of a yellow ultima, then click on the image shown, and then you can scroll through and see what I meant..

Russ the SRV8 is a very solid car so if you get to go out in listen for rattles and squeaks, other than that look at the overall build quality, has it been lashed together or has someone taken the time and trouble to do it right etc etc.
Most important of all though is, has it been properly registered ie does it say Southern Roadcraft or SRV8 on the log book, tax disc etc, if it doesnt its probably best to walk away, as its so much grief it really isnt worth it.
If you met some of the guys at the meet the other day try seeing if any of them can come with you to cast their 'expert' eye over the car etc.
Dont just buy with your heart, but with your head as well, it took me 6 months to find my car and I fell in love with a couple along the way but thanks to a good mate who had a cob, I didnt end up wasting my money and eventually found the right car.
The SRV8 can be a bit tight for larger people and also for taller people ie over 5'-10" may be a problem if it hasnt had the later extended footwells installed.

Go and look at it, get taken for a drive in it, crawl all over and under it, take someone with you as well, dont decide there and then, go home think about it, ask all those stupid questions on here, then make a decision.
