RE: Rolling Road RV8

Hi Kev, the place I went to is not exactly state of the art but at £59 an hour and someone who races cars who really knowes his stuff it is (in my opinion) the only way to really get your car sorted properly. I was there for just over an hour and a half and it cost me £105. Only slight criticism I would have is you will need to bye a tuning kit for your webber as he has no stock of jet's od needles :} :} :} :} :}

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Assuming you RV8 chaps are all using Hydraulic lifters which are fairly standard I agree that you should be rev limited to around 6000 - 6100 rpm.
above that the lifters cannot retain good valve control.
That's why race engine had solid lifters and adjustable pushrods or rockers.

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Martin,

Me ditto. My RV8 set-up is so close it's frustrating to think that I'll have to go to all the trouble of going to this well reccommended chappie. However, there is a common thread appearing here. Both your engine & Steve G's use the same set up. Since mine is fairly similar bar the valves, I think running a weeker rod/jet combo would be better. As I'm skiving off this afternoon (ssh!) will have a bash & see. If you're in tonite I may give you a buzz & get the full story

Cheers

Martin, how did you arrive at this figure of 275 BHP @ the fly wheel when the rolling road gives you a figure at the rear wheels?

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Eric,
I think the rolling road can somehow work out the transmission loss, so they calibrate this out of the calculation.

Stuart, the only reason I asked is that my 3.9 was only showing 180 at the rear wheels which I was a little disappointed with, although the car goes like the wind it was running out of steam at 6,000 rpm he reckoned it was a restrictive exhaust system, so we removed the two center boxes which was an improvement.

I read some where that you loose 37 bhp through the transmission, the guy who did my car reckoned 30 bhp. Now Cheng Lim reckons you can loose as much as 25% through the drive gear according to what running gear you have, so its any bodies guess! Regards Eric.

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Hi Eric,
Do you have hi-rev lifters? I think past 6000 (as mentioned above), the standard hydraulic lifters can't fill with oil fast enough after bleeding down so valve opening is reduced, hence power rapidly drops off.
What is the rest of your set-up?

Richard, the thing I now use to limit my revs is not having the car anymore ;( before that I had a crane cams digital multispark ignition which had a built in rev-limiter - it was supposed to be soft-touch but when you hit the limit, it sounds like a formula one pit-lane limiter, and is like hitting the brakes!!

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Oops, sorry Stuart, I forgot about your cobraless state. Ta for the info but I'm looking for a simple bolt on limiter such as Armtec etc. I thnik they are about £50-60 so perhaps I'll suck it & see

Cheers

RE: Rolling Road RV8

Richard,
I think Lumenition do a similar bolt-on stand-alone unit and that too is about 50ish from Europa or Merlin motorsport.
