What is "temporary" for SVA

About to get some dials etc and planning the dash. I thought I may be able to buy classic Smiths bezels, set the dash up as I want, and then stick 10mm foam camping mats over/around everything.
They are black mats but is this likely to be deemed temporary and so fail SVA?

If I get the SVA bezels, do I need any dash padding?

Or IVA or whatever!

Cheers

Not 100% sure how he did it but a friend of mine cut out the dash as he wanted it and covered it. Before he covered it though he cut a bit of plywood exactly the same. Once he had finished it all he mounted the dials in the plywood and fixed it behind the dash to the back of the dash. Looked really good and overcame the problem of the bezels. HTH

I think I see what you mean!! Was that designed as, "reversable"?
If the new smiths dials are like the old ones, you can take off the bezels (temporarily) and I guess stick them to the rear of the dash?

I haven't bought any dials yet though so the SVA rounded ones I understand are still an option, but I'm not sure if they need padding too.

No the dials all had the wrong rims which is why he mounted them on a separate piece of wood clipped to the rear of the dash. This had the effect of recessing the dials getting over the problem of the rims.

I have the Smiths classic gauges with the pointy bezels. I made a surround for the gauges from a piece of 2mm thick plastic sheet. I then glued a thin piece of foam to it and covered it in blue vinyl from Robert Dyas. This was then stuck to the leather dash with double sided tape for the test.

Passed fine and loads of people asked me afterwards why I removed it as they thought it looked good!

You can just see the top of it in this picture but if you want a better photo I can get one tomorrow.

Craig.

I ordered the gauges with SVA bezels and requested the traditional ones too. These came FOC I didn't pad the main surface of the dash only the lower edge. The bezels (SVA) are a complete crimp/ swage all the way around. They can be removed at home carefully. The tradition V bezels have tabs to secure them and are a doddle to retro fit. I don't think you could fit the sva bezels at home as tooling would be required, I'm sure an adapt and overcome method could be sorted though.

I cut the SVA bezels off using tin snips Now have v bezels and a nice flat dash, only for show of course

forgot to mention in reply to the original question:

I beleive a temporary fix for sva is anything that does not require a tool to remove. e.g. tie wraps are deemd as permananent as you need a tool to remove them
