RE: We were lucky!!

A few years ago, an advertising slogan was born when the ambulance chasers saw a gap in the UK market

"Where there's blame, there's a claim"

Since then, people have been afraid to do anything "normal" because there's an element of risk, which was previously accepted by all concerned. But no more.

It's even got to the stage where kindergarten staff won't stop a child wandering out of the grounds because they could be sued for restraining the child against it's will.

Sort of cheered me up when that group went under (wasn't without suspicion I recall). After all, we're the ones who have to fork out more for insurance because of them and others like them.

RE: We were lucky!!

Re the old days, I have often heard said buy elderly people that "you could leave your doors open and no one would steal anything". Well when i was a kid no one stole anything from your home cause you never had anything worth stealing. A rug on the floor and around that painted floor boards, No central heating, we sat around a candle to keep warm, bedtime we slept with an army greatcoat over us and ice inside the windows.I went to school with holes in my shoes , and on the way bought broken biscuits from the bakers for one penny. We coudn't afford a vacum cleaner, our house was so dirty even the rats wore overalls. The good old days Boll***ks. Now for something really stupid, I work in a residential home for people with learning disorders, we have just recieved a memo from head office, that states we must not change light bulbs, as this is a dangerous practice as steps or ladders must not be used by staff, call the engineer if they need replacing. This is the truth , what next. :} :} :} :} :} :} :tu :tu :tu

See your are an old git Graham!! Seriously do you remember those biscuits Arrow Route I think, got them down the local pub in the Of-fey one old penny; kept me going all week.

The cats whisker Crystal radio which had no speaker so you put the ear phones in a gold fish bowl so all the family could hear The Archers!!

Those rugs you mentioned my old granny made them with an old sack with bits of cut up woollies threaded through them! The annual spring clean when you put all the mats on the cloths line & beat shit out of them to get the dirt out, the mangle out in the back yard, all that horse shit out in the road that ended up on the garden, after the local trades men delivered there wears, like bread, groceries and coal etc!! they wasted nothing in them days. The Coop ration book queues; are the good old days!!! I could go on Eric.

RE: We were lucky!!

Health and Safety will be the death of Us!
The wonderful caring company I work for (must keep taking the pills) has decided that due to health and safety that it will be closing all company social clubs, read cheap pub, because they promote the consumption of alcohol at work - Against health and Safety protocols. The Norwich emporium of gogglebox productions lost its social club 3 months ago anyway, due to financial reasons (and the pub over the road is better and not full of Anglia staff!) But throughout the rest of the group all the social clubs are to be closed! I spoken to my counterparts in London, Leeds etc. most will just go to the local pub - as we have done for years. We think its to use the space for more offices, or has the world finally started to crack up!

RE: We were lucky!!

Steve,
You have hit the nail dear Sir, the world has now gone totally mad !!!!!!!!
I work in a large machine shop, using CNC machines for a large multinational conglomerate. I have recently been told that I'm not allowed to open the control cabinets for fault finding purposes. Odd, I thought, as this is the very reason they employed me in the first place!!
When I pointed this little contradiction out I was told that, and I quote:- "You will need to go on a course." When I asked who would be delivering the course the answer was......."According to our records, the qualified trainer is..........YOU?????????"
Having sorted this little cabaret out I swiftly taught myself all I know and carried on as before.
I've been doing this job for 22years and I am trying desperately to get out of engineering because the way it's going, we are gonna be legislated out of business in a few years!!!!!!

Ian.

RE: We were lucky!!

Nice one Paul

Jeremy Clarkson was right few weeks ago the Health and Safety zealots are one of the biggest threats to this country at the moment.
A small country shop near me had the store room directly off the main shop area just an interior door to separate the two, along comes a bight spark from the Ministy of Meddling and says , "that will not do you will have to block that door up" my mate the store owner says that is his only access from the shop,Idiot features says "well you will have to use the entrance to the storeroom from outside" wot even in bad weather etc my mate says "yes" says the Idiot"
No argument would pacify this Pr**k with ears so all the shop goods perishables etc have to be brought from the storeroom around the outside to the shop entrance.

To quote a daily rag "You couldn't make it up"
