Jaguar parts

I was wondering how people have gone about getting their jaguar parts for thier kit. Do you all buy donor cars or do you go to a specialised supplier and buy it as a complete package. If you do go to a supplier which one do you use and how much did you pay?

Thanks again
Lee

RE: Jaguar parts

Lee,

Try doing a search for "donor" (and maybe jag) and see what you get , there have been plenty of posts on the forum about this over the years!

RE: Jaguar parts

At the end of the day it depends how much work you are able and willing to do yourself.
The cost of reconning parts from Jaguar is expensive.

Many people find it more time and cost effective to buy a complete package from Ward Engineering, see the link on this site.

Or you can buy an XJS or XJ6 you need the V5 anyway to register without a Q plate.
The shafts then need to be shortened, parts cleaned and reconnned etc,

Lee, it has been my experience at great cost to buy all you need off the shelf, donors are a complete waste of time & money in my humble opinion.

Ward Ward Engineering for all your complete units reconditioned and set up; or perhaps Classic Jaguar Spares at Whaltham Abby for other bits Eric.

RE: Jaguar parts

Looking at doing the recon myself (as can be seen from other posts) So heres a question that may help if answered.

Ok, so I buy the bits from wards all done and shiny, where do I get a V5 from then?

RE: Jaguar parts

If you were serious Id have to disagree with you on that one.

Ive just got off the phone to John Gordon and found them nothing but helpfull. Only the distance between them and me puts up a question of shipping cost.

RE: Jaguar parts

Yeah I've used breakers, Gordons and Classic spares. Equally good operators. Nowt in it when it comes to reconditioning. The key 'bit' is the diff. That is the only part beyond the average home mechanic. Provided there is minimal gear backlash and a visual inspection of the main gears shows no damage you should be OK. There is a diff specialist at Markyate off the A5 near St Albans who will do LSD clutches for something like £95 leaving you to renew the input & output seal plus inspection cover. At dis-assembly, punch matching marks on the output bearing nuts and diff case & you can then re-tighten without worrying about preload, collapsible shims etc. I reckon you save about £800 doing the job yourself but lose knuckle skin and patience to produce something mechanically sound but less pretty. How often do you park upside down? You pays your money.........
