Where to mount fire extinguisher

I've seen them mounted on the rear bulkhead between the seats. Although this looks nice (IMO), it seems potentially lethal having a heavy chunk of metal just adjacent to your head in the event of a heavy frontal impact. Thoughts?

Cheers,
Ian.

I didn't find one that I thought looked good enough to mount in the cockpit.

I put mine in the boot.

In the event of a fire I think the first thing I will do is try to get out the car then if it's still worth trying I will open the boot and grab the extinguisher from there. I never lock the boot or bonnet when I'm driving the car.

That's assuming I can get out the car anyway

Best thing really is to fit a plumbed in fire system with the tank in the boot and nozzles under the bonnet This can be activated by a remote handle under the dash.

Craig.

I put mine on the floor just in front of the seat. Easy access and out of sight enough to be 'in your face'

A small fire extinguisher hitting you on the arm as it then travels through the dash and windscreen, probably stopping halfway through whatever you just crashed into, will be the least of your worries.

I fitted mine in the Dax, between the seats on the rear bulkhead (careful you don't drill through the battery...ala Rodders).

Not sure where to fit it on the Crendon though. Probably in front of the seat like Lee says.

Pray you don't get someone hititng you up the rear with a lethal projectile equipped car like yours. Your head will explode into 1000 pieces if it hits it.

You could mount it between the passenger seat and door on top of the sill. The retaining cage will prevent it coming loose in an accident as it will be lying horizontal and in line with the direction of travel.

The more expensive extinguishers have a stainless retaining band to prevent you being seriously maimed in the event of a crash!

Mine was between the seats on the bulkhead, thank god!!! When the Dax caught fire I was out of the car with the extinguisher already with me and armed. Bonnet open and let it rip. Some wiring and ally panel damage plus a load of white stuff that took weeks to get rid of.
