Unhappy Sticky Webber 500!?

Anyone else had problems with a webber 500 carb?

Having trouble with te throttle sticking, replaced the cable....but the problem seems to be in the carb and I cant seem to find out what it is.

is the body distorted (common webber problem if over tightened to manifold) take it off and see if it goes free; (too) thick gaskets are usually the culprit.

Are you using a thottle return spring? You can't rely on the one that is built into the carb on its own as its not strong enough.

wot he said; but dont use one thats too strong or the throttle body will wear (even)more prematurely...

Unhappy

I did try replacing the spring with a slightly stronger one.....but then I couldn't press the throttle smoothly , you would press harder until suddenly the pedal would jump down (not good, especially in damp conditions!!)

Can you remove the cable again and try moving the carb linkage through it's full travel? If that sticks then you can point the finger at the carb itself.

I fitted a Weber 500 to my Land Rover and used a bicycle brake cable as an accelerator cable. It stuck all the time and was not smooth at all giving a very jerky feel to the pedal. I brought a Land rover 110 V8 accelerator cable and it was as free as a free thing, and had the right fittings on the ends. Transformed the Land Rover.

When I built my Dax I used the same cable but had it modified by Venhill Cables to lengthen it a bit. Still works and fits perfectly.

Craig.
