Has anyone noticed the posts at the side of the road with what looks like solar panels on top? If so - what are they?

Andy, don't know about the solar panel, but the ones I have seen in this area along side the M25 have a similar glass ball on top (Disco type). I discovered they are vent pipes for methane gas when construction has taken place over a land-fill site. Eric

They are solar panels. Often next to remote traffic sigs, sensor or road information radio columns.
