Adjustable seats

Does anybody know of aftermarket seats that will have the same adjustability as, say, a saloon car?

My other (better?) half has arthritis and needs to have seats adjusted to a certain position to be comfortable, both as a passenger and driver. Unfortunately, the standard looking seats in the gallery photo's would cripple her within 5 miles!

If we can resolve this little issue, a pleasant weekend car beckons. I have spent the last 2 months trying to convince her a Tuscan is a bad idea for a weekend car and she has at last come round to my way of thinking!

Thank you in advance of assistance.

Stevie

RE: Adjustable seats

Hi Stevie

Unfortunately the space available inside a Cobra won’t really allow for the fitting of ‘comfortable’ seats with the adjustment you are after.

The only solution I can think of is that you have a custom seat made out of fibreglass to the right angles and then covered with a very good quality shock absorbing foam to make the seat as comfortable as possible. There are companies that make moulded seats for pro racing drivers and they might be able to do it for you but it would cost a lot.

Another consideration is that the ride quality in a Cobra, like many sports cars, is quite poor compared to modern standards and someone that is sensitive to a ruff ride might find it very uncomfortable, even with a moulded seat. ;(

Cheers.
Andy

RE: Adjustable seats

Oxymoron springs to mind ! Namely "Comfortable Cobra" !

Europa do seat runners which I was told I could use for an AK with their standard seats. I think StuartH had some on his 'Cobra' high back seats too. This is purely back and forth though on runners. I dont know if you would ever get the back section adjustable though..

Stevie

I have to agree, you will have a problem finding adjustable seats that will fit in a Cobra, even though it shouldn't stop you finding a seat that is comfortable, AK will supply you with basic fibreglass seat shells and I'm sure that a reputable trimmer will be able to build support where you wife would need it most.

I have to disagree with the quote (that ride quality in a Cobra, like many sports cars, is quite poor compared to modern standards)as this all depends on the chassis design and suspension set-up on the kit you purchase.

RE: Adjustable seats

Gents,

thank you for the replies so far. We know the car wont be "comfortable" as such, but we had both an Accord Type R and STi7 last year, neither of which scored highly in the comfort stakes, BUT, the seats could be adjusted so she could sit how she needs to.

The Tuscan had enough adjustment to be OK for her, the ride is not that much of an issue.

Again, thanks so far.

Stevie

RE: Adjustable seats

Stevie, if you can get to the Donnington kit car show next weekend you would be able to get an idea of what is poss or not and perhaps try some different seats out.

RE: Adjustable seats

Another option, Bedford Rascal Van seats fit in a Cobra, CAR BUILDER SOLUTIONS 01580891309. used to make fitted PVC covers for them. however looking in WHICH KIT I can'see them, maybe worth a call. could pick seats up from a breaker or near me a guy has a van sitting, rotting in his garden. If you want I can ask if he wants to sell them.

HAPPY BLASTING

RE: Adjustable seats

Contrary Mary

Stevie, my wife also has arthritis in her back, my seats were supplied by Richfield, steel frame (not fibre-glass!!). We did 1800 miles abroad this year with some degree of comfort. The Europa runners fit straight on the bottom of their seats, but depends how much room you have to play with. My wife has found it helpful to fit a navigators foot rest re comfort, although she could not navigate a randy dog too a bitch on heat even if her life depended on it! Eric :7

RE: Adjustable seats

what about cobra seats http://www.cobraseats.com

the two bottom of the range and the 6 top of the range are unadjustable. However the 4 mid-range are adjustable. and i've sat a these seats and are comftable.

Granted they are not "Classic" cobra seats BUT for someone with artritus or stability problems they are awesome seats. also may i reccomend some rubber "Dampers" on the bottom of the seat it reduces the vibration send from the car to the seat.
