Underslung Exhausts on a Dax

Hi,

Can someone confirm or deny that you can fit underslung pipes on a Dax fitted with a 350 Chevy engine and perhaps recommend a supplier.

Cheers

Michael

RE: Underslung Exhausts on a Dax

Hi Michael,

Updated on the above thread. Dave thinks that underslung may cause a bit of a prob as there's not a great deal of room underneath. I've also gone for the de dion chassis which leaves even less room. Apparently my pipes may be running right underneath the petrol tank which is good news!!!!

He might approach GD or even have them made up. I did kind of want something like the Blue GD racer type on the GD website with the pipes just running out of site underneath. they're slightly over the top. Have you seen them The reg is BAM....

Initially mine were going to near the corners which is ok tho he was going totry and move them in a bit. Now it appears that they may be fairly central anyway.

I'm due for delivery shortly (he says) and he's a good ol boy, sending me pics for a kind of portfolio type thing. I'mgoing for 3' bores and as soon as I get the pics I'll send them on for your perusal.

Why you going for them?

Paul
My reason is somewhere on the above thread

RE: Underslung Exhausts on a Dax

Paul,

Thanks for the reply, I actually really like the idea of underslung over side pipes and even though I plumped for the Dax I hoped I may be able to overcome this slight hitch!!

I seen the GD and heard it in action and I quite like the sound too

Regards

Michael

Have you got any idea how much you're spending, in total that is? And has it gone up or is it likely to go up again. I'm well up for the hard top, no doubt you've seen it

RE: Underslung Exhausts on a Dax

Paul,

I've calculated the cost buying everything new except the 3.54 powerlock which cost me £250 (in exceptional condition).

The total comes out to just a bit over £18k + paint which I've budgetted £1.5k for.

I have the bought the non assembled rolling chassis/body, have spec'd a 350 Chevy/Tremec lump (350bhp), twin hoops with stays, 17" rims etc etc.

I think it's actually gone down by a couple of thousand

And yes I do want the hard top, I asked Dave the other day to mail me when he has prices. I'd love to ship my car up to him when it's nearly complete to have it done.

Regards

Michael

I dare not tell her, she'd hang me up by my short and curlies

She did ask me just before I'd ordered the chassis/body and I mentioned it was around the £4k mark.

I think I may have forgot some bits at that stage though

RE: Underslung Exhausts on a Dax

I went this route when I had a 3.5 in the Dax, although only 2" od pipe and running mmaway from the chassis the dam things used to bottom out all of the time. Hit one of the level crossings or rail tracks crossing the road on the way to LeMan and it was a farty banging noise untill they were fixed in the camp site. With the 460 lump I have gone for unobtrousive black straight through side pipes. I still would like underslung but cant put up with the problems of these.
Bye Bye:tu

Hi Bigblock!

I am hoping Dave master builder always under pressure good ol boy Brooks is gonna be able to sort something out with clearance. I have to be careful as I'm sure he'll be watching my replies (hi Dave). He's said it's nothing he can't sort out.
