"Temporary" for SVA

Asked a similar question recently and was told that unacceptable temporary solutions were ones that could be undone without using tools.
The thing is my car is going to look like it's taking the pi** with no windscreen, jacked up suspension and sleeping mats plastered all over the dash!
Was just wondering if it would be OK to do things like fibreglass over bolts holding the harnesses on the roll bars and plaster the windscreen washers in silicone or half a squash ball or similar..
What I mean to ask, I guess, is if the measure taken is blatently temporary but would need tools to reverse, do the inspectors get shirty? You know, for not entering into the spirit of things!!
Any feedback appreciated.

ps Any SVA inspectors reading this, we love you, no really!

Sounds to me like you are going too far and there is always the risk of the examiner getting the hump. Why are you bodging it all why not jut do it right. As for covering the bolts that hold the harnesses on that is a big no no as they might want to check you have used the appropriate bolts. IMHO

I'm with Tinka,

Why are you rushing to get the car through the SVA in such an unfinished state. If you make a good job of the car the examiner is more likely to be impressed with the build quality of the car. I've just been there and done it.

Regards
John

I think there has to be a common sense approach to the SVA - and despite the impression you might get, most SVA testers seem to adopt this.

By way of example, U-shaped edging is temporary in one sense (it can be removed by hand) but is acceptable in the majority of cases.

Taking your car to SVA without windscreen is OK - if it isn't there, then it cannot be tested.

My tester asked me what I was going to replace the horrible Ford steering wheel with ; and what wheels were going to replace the rather skinny granada ones.

If you are in any doubt about certain things, i would suggest you post a picture up here and invite comments.

Alternatively, phone up your local SVA station and ask the tester what he wants to see.

Get access to a copy of the SVA manual and ask if you don't understand.

HTH Robin

I'm good with common sense and would be pleased if examiners are too. Perhaps my original post was a little flippant, I haven't really bodged anything (important) but the car simply cannot pass with the indicators too low and the dash laid out as I want it (bezels and toggle switches). As it happens, I think the windscreen is OK and the squirters are from a mondeo so should be fine too, the steering column and so steering wheel is from a Corsa. However, no one in their right mind would leave the car like that and they know it as well as I!
I suppose the real thing I'm wondering about is the upper harness mount. I am awaiting delivery of my seats and will then see how things look re where to mount the top mounts. I wanted to avoid having to buy stainless fittings from GD and welding them into the bars, as the bars on the Ram are offset to drivers neck. I have a solid point specially welded in just under the lip but it will be too low. Hoped I could just bolt them into the bar and get the bolt passable.
A bit frustrating doing things twice is all, but I don't think I have a choice.

ps I guess I'm rushing as I'm worried about the goal posts moving again. eg whiplash protection required with the seats.
Cheers
