Damaged fibreglass

I used to carry a metal petrol can (10 litres) in the boot (right hand side).Over time it has been pressing against my Cobra's bodywork and has caused the paint/fibreglass on the outside to crack slightly.

The pics attached look 100 times worse than it does in real life (due to the flash being used).

What can be done to fix cracking in the paint?

If it's a painted finish then getting the area re-sprayed is the only real solution.

You could try to hide it however. I have some success with those coloured polishes that fill in cracks and scratches.

Maybe you could clean the area and get all traces of polish and dust out the cracks. You may then be able to paint with a fine brush in the lines and then buff it back out with cutting compound.

May be worth having a chat with a local paint shop or one of those chip / scratch repair companies.

Craig.

Some of the Chips-away guys are good. Just had the Beetle fixed after a young lady with an isofix car seat stuffed our bonnet. Car is silver!!

.......to add to my post, I don't think a mobile paint repairer will manage to repair your damage that well as you have a dark metallic paint and it is in the middle of a large area. Got to be worth a phone call.

How did a young lady with a car seat manage to knacker your bonnet?

Yes, my sentiments entirely. Car in play area carpark. Saw out of the corner of my eye this couple with kids getting into a car next to ours. Silly bitch was resting the child seat on the wing of the Beetle. Metal fixing on back of her child seat took the paint and galvanising down to the steel. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Could get out there in time, but then the Brick sh** house of a partner with her slowed me up a bit too. The gold round his neck weighed more than me! Gulp.

Some people.
