Looking at buying a kit car Cobra

I'm looking at buying a kit that was started back in 1991 !!!!, but not sure if this will be out of date compared to new builds etc. It's got a 'Windsor' V8, 3.5L. I've never heard of this engine, so not sure if parts for it are easily available in this country????

Where is the best place to go fot bits??? wheels, interior etc.

Any advice would be very helpful

many regards,

RE: Looking at buying a kit car Cobra

Jules,

Could be a good buy if it's cheap enough. A couple of points though, you'll have to make sure that things like the seat belt heights are ok for the SVA, 'cause putting them in the correct position, could be a pain (but not impossible though) also a "windsor" 3.5 litre???
A windsor engine is an American Ford V8 engine with a capacity of either 302 cu in (5 litre) or 351 cu in (5.7 litres) A 3.5 litre engine sounds like a Rover engine.
Nothing wrong with a Rover engine, damn fine engine, reliable, lots of upgrades, smooth, light, loads of Cobs have them, but just make sure you know what you're getting.
If you can post some pics of the engine, someone here will tell you what it is.
What's the kit? (manufacturer)

Jules,

I bought mine part finished also with a '91 start date, it really depends on how much of the shiney bits are already with it that you may need to ditch in favour of SVA friendly ones (even down to tyres!), and of course how much the manufacturer has changed the kit since '91.

RE: Looking at buying a kit car Cobra

The point's you've made are one's that are in the back of my mind. I don't want to buy one that needs loads of work just to update to to the lastest SVA standards. I got some pictures this morning, and not really impressed with the condition. Especially the engine/frame. He's priced it as £4,250 which I still is a bit steep as I'm going to have to strip it down fully to clean it up !!!!

Thanks for your help

Jules

RE: Looking at buying a kit car Cobra

I believe it's a Dax kit. I've tried to attach some pic's. hope they work.

One of the pic's shows the engine as a Ford. How do I tell what size it is ? someone has said it might be a 5.0l, or 5.7 litre.

Will part's be difficult to get?

How can I tell wether the chrome's are SVA friendly? Has anything else changed? My main concern is the chassis and whether I have to change anything. I've got some pic attached. (not a pretty sight)

It's a Dax, so I'm told. not sure how you can tell really. The bonnet doesn't have a nice power bulge though which all other cars have.

He wants £4250 but I think that's too much as it needs stripping down and cleaning up alot. It's got a Ford engine. which someone else told me is should be a 5 or 5.7 litre. V.Nice

Attached a couple of photo's

You, or someone else, might have confused 350 cubic inches with 3.5 litres... the former equates to 5.7 L...
