| POR 15 I was looking at Phils Dax Build web site (www.replica-cobra.co.uk) and in his chassis section he mentions a paint called POR 15. He describes this as powder coating in a tin. Has anybody else used this product before on their chassis or donor parts. I did ask Peter from Dax about it and he said he had not heard of it before. I also asked a couple of people at the Dax Open Day and they hadn't heard of it either. The reason I ask is that I wanted to use it on my donor parts and my chassis rather than get them powder coated, as doing it yourself works out cheaper, and I know it will take longer but I'm in no rush. Cheers Lee :tu website still under construction.

| RE: POR 15 its a high temp engine enamel,i used it on my block and heads but it only comes in limited colours i believe such as basic blue green etc got it from frosts it looks the part when applied some people do not favor painting the engine as it doesnt help with the heat dissipation, but mine seems to run fine

| RE: POR 15 Lee, I have used it. I really like the finish and would compare it to that of powder coating. I used nitromors to strip the old paint from my diff, then the POR rust remover spray ( left it looking like it was fresh from the cast), POR rust preventative paint next followed by two coats of POR chassis black. The finish is satin wich I wanted and I applied it by brush. The rest of the items I will spray but I tried the brush application first. The brush marks flow out as it dries and the finish is more than acceptable. Only open a tin when you have got all your parts ready to paint as it does not store well. I have thrown half a tin away as the lid bonded shut! Broke my heart too as it isn't the cheapest of paints. Also once it starts to dry there ain't no removing it I tried cellulose thinners and methyl ethyl ketone... no chance, gothic style finger nails for a week The finish is resistant to fuels/ brake fluids blah blah and it relly does feel tough. Not britle but almost rubberised. I got mine from Frosts and would certainly reccomend using it on the donor items. I will be. I have uploaded an image for you to see the finish. Well I have tried to hope it has worked. Lee Topham GD Chassis sill sat lonely on garage floor. Ford 351C looking vey shiney. Loads of spare time and no brass to do owt!

| RE: POR 15 Hi, I found it was best to pour an approx amount that you want to use into a container and shut the lid on the original tin immediately. When it starts to go off it's too late to continue using it. Wait for the residue in the container to dry and you will see how it forms durable flexible skin. Its been on my chassis, diff, etc, for 4 years now and it's still as good as it was then. Phil Did my website cure your insomnia? :tu

| RE: POR 15 I used the black on my chassis and it covers really well including the sharp edges which is never that successful when using Hammerite. But make sure you read the warnings on top of the tin (there's enough of them) especially the one regarding covering the top of the tin with cling film prior to putting the lid on. I had to wreck the tin to get the lid off and that was after not using it for a week. Well recommended even though quite pricey.

| RE: POR 15 Thanks for the posts people. I will ring frost engineering for a chat tomorrow about applying it to my donor parts and chassis instead of powder coating. Cheers Lee :tu

| RE: POR 15 Can recomend it, its leaves a good finnish and i used the silver on the ali hub carriers from the xj6 finished them off a treat. Painted the chassis and donor part in black excellent finish. But bewarned you most reseal the tin with clingfilm between the lid and the tin otherwise you may as well order some more, as you wont get the lid off. JP |

| RE: POR 15 Hello, I can see that many of you are thinking in the way of using alternatives to the powder coating. I have powder coated my GD chasis and several other parts directly from a company that do this job and the cost was only 50 pounds, the only problem was to wait for the company to paint with the color you choose, if you do not mind the color, they paint it for you in a very few time. In several industrial areas there are companies that do this work, just take a look to the yellow pages, for sure you could find any company that could do this job at industrial prices near of your place. Just my thought. Jesus Granada, Spain. |

| RE: POR 15 Hi all I have been in contact with Frost engineering today and spoke to a very helpfull chap on the phone. He describes POR15 as the ultimate rust protecting paint. By the way if anyone is interested POR stands for Paint Over Rust. I will without doubt taking this option for my chassis and donor parts instead of powder coating. My reasons for this are that it is cheaper, I'm in no rush so taking longer will not be a problem, It gives just as good protection if not better, You can get it in silver as well as black. The reason I mention the last point is that I quite like the idea of doing my chassis and donor parts in silver rather than black. I will let you know how I get on in a future post Cheers Lee :tu
