Smash & Grab from the States

Hi,

I have a quick trip to the states this week, and there is a local parts store round the corner from my hotel that can get me an Edelbrock Performer Inlet Manifold and Weber 500 for my RV8 (P/N 2198 & 1404) in 24hrs for $491 approx £295.

Can anyone say if there are any obvious pitfalls in doing this ?

Worth checking that you get all the gaskets/throttle linkage/air cleaner or at least budget for them.

If you take them out of the boxes, and wrap them up well send book them in as luggage if customs pull you up you may be able to convince them they're used parts and pay less duty.

Take big suitcases & you'll probably be OK. I know someone who allegedly brought back 4 original hallibrands this way -god knows how he got the 10inch ones in a case! I think he had 3 obliging friends helping too!
