All Cars must carry a spare wheel from Jan 1st 2004

I heard about this EU legislation this morning x( Will a Wagon Wheel do, provided it is not passed it’s expiry date, of course

What will we have to carry next; spare alternator, battery, exhaust and radiator just in case they go too? :-;

What about cars with different width wheels on front compared to back?
Will we have to carry 2 spares? Sod's law says that whichever wheel you have a puncture on the spare will be the wrong size.:} :}

Those EU types should really get out a bit more than thinking up cr*p like this.

Can't find any info about this on the web... where did you hear it from? Are there alternatives, such as that foam stuff in a can?

As far as I can remember, Smart cars do not carry a spare.

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.

I believe there are several new cars around at the moment which don't have a spare as standard. They are supplied with a can of instant repair/ inflate stuff.
Many cars have a space saver spare which is limited to 50 mph and is very narrow, they can be used as "get you home" only and can be used front or rear.
I have a Jaguar space saver for the Cobra, but I never carry it 'cos it weighs three tonnes.

I am pretty sure this is a windup as I can not see why it would be legislated.
