| RE: Brake Calipers I finally removed all of my pistons and wanted to share a tip with anyone else who is struggling. If you find that you can't remove the pistons from their callipers, but when prising them with a screwdriver you do see some movement then try the following. Get a piece of 8mm stud iron and carefully weld it across the top of the piston being carefull not to put any weld between the calliper and the piston itself. Use this stud iron as a handle and turn the calliper one way and then the next while applying force to remove it. You will find that the piston will slowly pull out eventually. I had two pistons that wouldn't budge and by doing the above, they came out very easily without scraping my knuckles in the process. I hope the above is of some use to somebody. Any questions send me an email. Cheers Lee :tu

| RE: Brake Calipers Hope this helps someone. An old tool that`ll do the job, cost you a fiver and last forever! Go to your local bike breakers and buy a handle bar (a scrap/bent handle bar tube will do) but you need a bike front brake lever/master cylinder asm` with hose, from any old wreck they have (tell them what you are trying to do and they`ll be more than happy to get rid of some unsellable old bits for a fiver), connect the lever/master cylinder brake system hose you have to your Jag` caliper, put a block of wood between the pistons so you can bleed the system with control over the pistons, then use various thickness bits of wood to control the rate of the pistons you are trying to shift, and shift they will, another handy tool . Job done mate! |
