RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

I Have the answer!
Why dont you guys get into a boxing ring and batter the hell out of each other. One of my best freinds fathers used to encourage us to go into the garden and have a punch up.He used to fight for money in the old days doing bare knuckle fist fighting and also fought a legend who was THE KING of THE GYPSIES on bodmin moor for 2 and a half hours. So when my freind and i had an arguement we were encouraged to fight it out,he would then say that afterwards we should shake hands and would have gained each others respect.
The bloke was easily the hardest bloke i ever met .
My point is that he was hard as nails but was always a gentleman.
Sort your problems out and stop acting like a pair of pricks.
Life is to short for bitching like a pair of old women.
We can all mess around and have daft arguements on this site, but secretly its all a bit of a laugh, these things are all a bit of fun really and should not be taken seriously.
So for god sake get in a ring or shut the #### up.:}

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Kev,

You lay on the ring and I’d gladly get in it with Fib’s.

He’s always employed words at a safe distance and with devastating effect against helpless manufacturers. He’s admitted that the words he employed against me were untruthful, which I regard as a totally cowardly and spineless method of settling his scores and advancing his commercial objectives. I’m just the last in a long stream of manufacturers who he’s put out of business over the years.

It just so happens that in my case, for the first time in his life, he’s met somebody who is able and willing to fight him on his own terms. The difference in my case is that I’ve had to be courageous in printing THE TRUTH about him.

I was beating him on the newsagents shelves (which caused his attack on Pilgrim in the first place).

I’ve beat him in the High Court of Justice (which caused his recent attack on Kit Car).

I’m beating his attempts to bolster his new manufacturing businesses on the basis of biased and bent reports.

I’m now beating him in terms of production quality, size and contents.

I’d beat him in a boxing ring too IF I had the opportunity.

Since I won’t have the opportunity, I’ll continue to knock six bells out of his business by stating the truth and by purveying the better product (with increased emphasis on the later). As I said two posts ago. His average sales have dropped another 11% in recent months, his advertising revenue is falling (obvious from looking at his magazine) and his subscribers are deserting. So I’m not seeking your approval, but rather simply explaining the situation.

Please remember that I didn’t open this thread, but from looking at its title it’s hardly surprising that I’ve contributed to it. Is it?

Den.

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Yesterday I went to the newsagents, flicked through Kit Car and found that all the same slagging off was in there, so did not buy it.
Den, I do consider your publication the better of the two already, but I will not buy it until this nonsense ends.
My advice (wanted or not) is to not forget that the readers of either magazine are generally intelligent people (I say 'generally' to exclude Kev). So I think they/we will be capable of deciding which to buy.
Increased long term sales will come from the product standing up for itself, not you telling us it's the best continually.
On the subject of spelling, bad spelling in posts here is one thing, but bad spelling in commercial publications is terrible. I am in the print trade myself, and see some glaring errors. The miss spelling of any word printed that big is amazing. Do you guys not get proofs from your printer/repro house anymore?
In summary, Den, it's time to rise above the rows and prove yourself right by keeping your product at the top, without the bitching.
Hope this doesn't offend, also hope to meet you at Exeter, my car will be on Dave Brookes stand, so I'll be near there.
Cheers,
Neil.

Den.
I didn't want to get involved in your tat-a-tat with Which Kit. I assumed from previous postings that you are/have wound up your attacks from your priveliged position in Kit Car. Like many others on this site, I prefer your mag, but please read and try to understand. We the readers have absolutly no interest in your squabble, be it right or wrong. Do what your good at, forget the bull####..We read to be informed, entertained, this you do well, continue with your vendetta and you will loose readers.. fact, then you may well not be laughing on your way to the bank!!!
Yours in good faith.

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Neil,
Thanks for you advice. I’d simply comment as follows:-

“I do consider your publication the better of the two already, but I will not buy it until this nonsense ends.”

On PistonHeads I explained how 5 years of pent-up emotion exploded into a series of three attacks on my attacker. In the September issue I explained that my retaliation was finished. However, the attacks were printed in sections that are “run on” and all those items in the present issue were in fact printed three issues ago. The December issue (out at Exeter) shall be more or less “clean”.

“Increased long term sales will come from the product standing up for itself . . . .”

That’s exactly what’s happening. Every area of Kit Car has been subject to improvement, including proof reading. The December issue will be a massive 212 pages with what I believe is excellent feature content. However, the main strength is that it’s genuinely honest and objective.

“The miss-spelling of any word printed that big is amazing. Do you guys not get proofs from your printer/repro house anymore?”

Truth is that in the matters being discussed, I pulled rank on Ian Hyne (Kit Car’s editor) and put this stuff in over his head. It therefore didn’t undergo normal checking procedures. It has illustrated that I should never have been forced out of the trade in which I’m a professional into one that strictly isn’t my ‘calling’. Truth is that I’m itching to become an engineer once again. Try to imagine the pain and hurt I’m experiencing every day in not being able to do what I’ve done all my working life – due to the antics of a spiteful lying bully.

“Den, it's time to rise above the rows and prove yourself right by keeping your product at the top, without the bitching.”

As I said, the bitching came as a result of my loosing my rag. In future I shall be stating the truth in far more socially acceptable terms. The truth is that Kit Car is bigger, better and NOT bent. I think you know that and also know that I’ll win through.

“Hope this doesn't offend, also hope to meet you at Exeter. . . .”

No, I’m not offended. I’ll see you there!

Charlie,
As I said to Neil, the vendetta did finish in the September issue but some sections containing contentious material had by then been printed. The November issue exhausted the vast majority of it and, as I said, the December issue is pretty clean.

I shall be continuing certain of my themes. For example the fact that Kit Car is so much bigger. I believe that’s both morally and commercially acceptable.

Fine, I have no problems at all with that.
Now we all can get back to "normallity"; i.e "slagging each other off"' and as Kenny Everit used to say; "All in the best possible taste"
Charlie.

Kev,
Quoting your words:-
“I would also like to say to Den, that I also prefer his magazine out of the two, when all the slagging off stops, I will continue to buy it.”
Thanks, I’ll take you up on that Exeter. Quoting your words again, you really were:-
"Born to be a bloody nice bloke"
Oops – have I gone all ‘commercial’.
