RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Den,
One more thing, and I hope you'll take this in the constructive way its intended:

when I first started reading kit car mags in general, I particualrly liked the hands-on approach in Kit Car magazine, in particular the practical tips on how to strip starter motors, odd build tips from Gerry Hawkridge etc. However, I feel that some of that side has been done very well by Nigel Dean on the Which Kit, and one of the reasons I;ve bought Which Kit recently (I buy both mags, whiever looks better for each issue) is because of these useful ideas. Sadly Gerry's articles often seem very thin on the ground now. I'd also like to see more construction series - I have to say the 2 chapters on the Ultima build in the WK? issues I did buy were excellent. What about similar in Kit Car and not just yet another Lotus 7 copy!

regards,

Kevin (not the boxing one).

This could happen when Den gets time to get back to me,

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

I have been buying Kit Car for just over a year since I started my Sumo build.
Lately I have become fed up with this war that Mr Tanner has flogged to death on numerous pages of the magazine.
it is neither informative about kit cars or remotely interesting to read. I recently bought Which Kit, and found it to be well written, with lots of high quality (better than Kit Car) photos.
Perhaps Mr tanner should devote his time to writing articles about kit cars. That is what I buy the magazine for. If I wanted to read Viz I would buy it

RE: Kit Car magazine

I`ve been involved in competitive businesses for some time and at no time have I had to tell my customers how bad my competition is; I leave that to the "customer" to judge on the strength of my product; the quality of service given; and my integrety as a provider. I suggest the publishers of both magazines look to their own product as opposed to decrying each other.
I`m sure that your readers would receive a better product if you devoted your energies in that direction; or hopefully a third publication will emerge that will fulfill our requirements.

Just bought Which Kit, there's no "vendetta" in there.
Makes a change to read a mag that's not slagging off the competition.

RE: Kit Car magazine

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for the feedback.

On the whole I agree with you all. Like Kevin (not the boxing one) said, Kit Car has been weaker on the technical side of late and I’m making moves to correct that. As Philip said, I’m in negotiations with him about publishing his full build story and am in similar negotiations with about 3 others on the PistonHeads forum to the same end. If any of you have full story’s or short technical tips, then please contact me. If they’re good, I’ll publish them. That offer even extends to professionals like Mr Hawkridge.

I’ve made the point that I accept that my rant went on too long, but that it’s now over. I sincerely hope that you can understand the background of injustice and frustration that led to my overheating to the point of blowing my head gasket. The fact is that I lost my health and the business I created over 17 years to a liar and a cheat who I’ve now thoroughly exposed. That job is done and I hope that you accept that I’m moving on. There will be further exposure of fraud and lies but not in the kind of Pinocchio Fibly terms that I can’t entirely justify. Having said that, it was brave and funny first time around – wasn’t it? – or do I still need treatment? It also worked, commercially speaking.

Simon made the point that Which Kit? isn’t attacking me. That’s true, but it’s a very recent development following 5 years of attack, inspired by the fact that I’ve told Fib’s in the most forthright of terms that if he ‘sows the wind’ AGAIN ‘he’ll reap a whil-wind’ AGAIN. My point is that the absence of attack is another positive outcome of my campaign on top of those mentioned in my previous posts.

PaulGD points out that my actions appear contrary to normal behaviour. I accept that. In my defence I’d point out that I behaved impeccably until June this year when I came to realize that Fib’s is no ordinary competitor. Remember that he drove me out of my Pilgrim position and I’m in fact very fortunate to have a second business from which to earn my living and stage this comeback. Remember also that I’ve NEVER knocked the Which Kit? product in terms of its quality of production. I’ve merely (and truthfully) pointed out that you can’t take its subjective claims or recommendations at face value. I had a difficult job to do, which I did with passion, conviction and integrity. That’s how I’ve always tried to operate.

Finally, KeithS makes the point that he doesn’t want to read about my problems with Fib’s. He’s right. However, he’s almost finished building a kit (that I designed – read my name on the front page of its instructions) that for 5 years was excluded from Which Kit? except on those occasions when it was described as crap. But for this campaign that situation would have remained. Food for thought?

Sorry it’s been another bally long post.

RE: Kit Car magazine

Den Tanner you sneaky bugger!!
As I said in an earlier post, I flicked through your mag and didn't buy it. However, I was informed that there was a pic' of my car on page 85, so I've had to eat humble pie and go buy a copy now!! So will MikeT, because his is in the same picture.
Cheers,
Neil.

Neil

I always buy Kit Car Mag, but I have to admit that the content is getting less and the classifieds are increasing, probably because a lot of the ads are repeated.

Is the pic in the November issue.?????????????????

Den, more articles please, you have a good mag, focus more on the content and not Mr Filby or he will win in the end.

RE: Kit Car magazine

Mike,

I’m not sure I agree with your analysis about the amount of editorial content. We have around 60 pages every month, which is more than the rival. On top of that we have club lists and other regular stuff that the opposition hasn’t got.

The classifieds have increased because they’ve been coming over from another magazine. There’s about 450 of them of which about 30 are duplicates. The other mag has only about 120. My point is that you’re wrong in saying that we have more because of duplication. The 30 duplicates are there for reasons it’s not worth going into here.

The ordinary advertising is also expanding for a number of reasons. Some are the facts that advertisers are moving from Which Kit?, we’ve picked up a number of CCC clients and Tom (my ad manager) is doing brilliantly at cultivating new clients.

My point is the physical growth of Kit Car is across the whole spectrum. If we got AK’s advertising, we’d not only be shocked, delighted but would have a completely full house.

Finally, your point about ending the vendetta has been taken. No more Pinocchio Fibly after this (November) issue. The December issue is clean (almost – well I’m never going to be angelic – am I?)

Den
