Kit Car magazine

How embarrassing for Kit Car magazine. In their spat with Which Kit, they have filled a full page with the words "THE END IS NIGH" Unfortunately they've spelt it wrong, and it reads "THE END IS NEIGH" do you think it's turning into a horse magazine?
Ah the wonders of spell checkers{-} {-} {-} {-} {-}

Best thing to do is leave it on the newsagent’s shelf, hit them where it hurts :7

Well i have that magazine and have looked through it twice and never even noticed the page. (until it was pointed out) So much for making a big statement.

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Is Den still printing that drivel about his fight with Which Kit and how Mr Filby is alledgedly a schiester?
I for one am getting sick of this slagging off he keeps printing every magazine issue. First time it was quite funny, but I'm not interested in subsidising his vendetta, and that 4 page slagging is becoming tedious.

I also note that in the latest Which kit? issue I see the Sumo has been inserted into their Book on cobras, the mag carries ads for Pilgrim and they have recently reviewed their Porsche replica. I think P. Philby has buried the hatchet, istn it time My Tanner did the same. Or go to court and get on with it.

Rant over.

Kevin

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Kevin,
There’s been an awful lot said on this sordid subject on the PistonHeads forum, so I’ll not dig up old dung heaps here.

Let’s just say that until June this year I kept the whole argument out of the public’s eye and quietly suffered the injustice of Filby’s lying and biased reporting.

I lost my rag when following the winning of my claim in the High Court (which proved that Filby had published lies), Fibs immediately and hypocritically published that Kit Car had ‘dubious standards’ which he said were ‘tarnishing’ the reputation of Which Kit? He went on to say that ‘Tanner didn’t win’ and that he felt I had been spineless in publishing that I had, and a number of other things.

My response (in the heat of the moment) was to gather together a number of truthful facts and publish them by way of an exposé. It’s not that easy to publish the fact that somebody is a brazen liar without reference to the things that he’s lied about, so I had to include ‘the evidence’ which is astonishingly extensive.

1. Which Kit? lied about its sales figures and market position.
2. Which Kit? biased its reports to pump up the products of 3 firms in which it has financial interests (which it attempts to hide).
3. Which Kit? was biased against Sumo. That product was denied coverage and even the ability to advertise for a period of 5 years.
4. The ‘companies’ referred to above were diddling customers, which I assert is akin to the gamekeeper turning poacher.

As I said, the evidence is plentiful and it took up a fair number of pages. However it did exactly what it was intended to do in that it conveyed the truth as to exactly which magazine had ‘dubious standards’ and exactly who was ‘tarnishing’ who.

My only slight regret is that certain idiots think that the process of exposing corruption is corrupt. However, as I see it, that’s their problem.

My campaign achieved several of its objectives, some of which you’ve listed. However, the fact that I’ve embarrassed Fib’s into changing certain of his policies doesn’t mean that an honest man has been made out of him. Indeed, IMHO all that I’ve done is force him to become more subtle in his deviousness.

On a positive note, I can report that for the duration of my campaign (which is almost over), I’ve picked up lots of subscriptions from Which Kit? customers. In fact for the past 5 months subscriptions sales have been higher than last year (one issue was 70% up). Classified advertisement bookings have increased (at the expense of Which Kit? judging from its responses). Finally, wholesalers figures that came through late last week say that average Which Kit? sales have dropped from 7,100 to 6,400.

My point is that in every area my message has been received. So, if you want to have a laugh at the spelling then do so. I’ll be laughing with you – all the way to the bank.

Den.

PS – Didn’t anybody notice that Britain’s is spelt wrong too. No? But you knew what it meant, didn’t you?

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

This is getting boring, I do not see a problem in reading both magazines as there is useful information in both. As for a spelling mistake there is probebly loads in there but this one stood out as the page was so big. having said that a page full of colour with no interesting information on i just seem to skip anyway.

I know how you feel when someone picks up a spelling mistake you just feel gutted as people dont pick up on your correct spelling.

The thing is you are now calling the people that buy you mag idiots and without these people you would not be laughing all the way to the bank.
(Didn’t anybody notice that Britain’s is spelt wrong too. No? But you knew what it meant, didn’t you?)

I thought that editors would like feed back from there customers, obviously not unless it suits them.

Thanks
Paul

RE: Kit Car magazine - rant

Paul,
I think you’ve misunderstood part of what I’ve said. I most certainly am not calling customers names in relation to my stupid spelling mistake. I deserve to be subject to P155 taking on the point. My point was that whether I spelt it right or not, it did the job. I am indeed laughing all the way to the bank because I’ve conveyed the point that Kit Car is bigger, better and therefore the best option for both advertisers and readers.

Those I was referring to as ‘idiots’ are those who’ve vilified me for basically telling them the truth. In effect, many have said that I’m as bad as Fib’s because I’ve described him as he is. I find that difficult to comprehend and have concluded that it’s their problem, not mine.

I understand that customers can glean much information form both magazines. My point is that one is much smaller and therefore poorer value AND it contains a lot of deliberately distorted material. The problem with a magazine that deliberately publishes lies is that you never know which is truth and which is lies. The value is therefore like that of a chocolate tea-pot IF you need advice regarding what to buy. Such revelation has caused some customers to question the value of reading both.

I fully accept that you’re not persuaded and that’s fine by me. I guess that’s because you’ve moved beyond the buying phase into the technical phase. However I can assure you, from speaking to those effected, that biased and misleading features concerning Razer, AF Sports and Python puts my warnings into an altogether different perspective.

I do find it very hard to understand why calling a spade a spade should be so controversial. I don’t have any problem with anybody having a laugh at my spelling.

Den.
