RE: ADVICE ON BUYING A COBRA

Chris

Welcome. I was in your position about 6 months ago. i called Hallmark and Sovereign. Hallmark were more helpful. Then I visited hallmark and viewed many to get the idea of what was available, had a test drive etc. They were unbelievably helpful. Its also useful to get the wife 100% on board. Overal though i just couldn't afford Hallmark, great cars, great people and I have no doubt they would give great service but the car I wanted was £10k too much.

So then I scanned the web, found a car the same spec as the one I wanted in Hallmark- was svaed but needed carpets, badges etc. The guy had spent £25k on it.It was still in gelcoat. He had had both Hallmark and Sovereign around, they offered him £11k! After some haggling and as I had the cash on hand I got it for £12k. At the end of the day there is always a market value based on cash and need, I was in the right place i the right time, and the guy really didn't want to sell to a dealer. I really felt for him, but it went to a good home and I am very thankful this guy let me join a club I had wanted to be in since I was 17 at a price that was my limit.

6 months on, carpets are in, gel coat is polished (much cheaper than a respay and believe me no-one notices). Car is terrifying but I just havn't had a chance to use it much, role on next year.

As for hallmark, I mailed them to let them know as I felt terrible, most car dealers are twats, but believe me Hallmark is different. They responded with advice on bits for me, on painters etc with no obvious interest for them. If I had the money I would go there everytime!

Good luck with the hunting, if you can afford it and you are not good with cars you wouldn't go far wrong with Hallmark.

My car spec is SRv8, Repower performer 351 windsor, tremec 5 speed, underslung exhausts, only done 1500 miles. Other than suspension setup and oil cooler retrofit it is A1
