RE: Has anyone imported an engine from Engine Factory.com

Not used these people but I imported a Chevy in bits from PAW of Chatsworth California. I believe complete (built) engines are liable to extra import duty in a way that parts are not. Mine was a 350 4 bolt kit - a '79 block 30 thou over-bored, re-ground crank etc. You can pretty well specify what you want with gorrilla motors, heads from Edelbrock, re-worked original iron, World Castings etc., and Fords, Mopars etc., in every size and material. The long and short of it was I got excellent service but freight and duty costs are key to whether it works out a bargain compared to UK sourcing given the limited opportunities to follow up a guarantee to the West Coast of the USA etc. Most of the US engine suppliers offer free trucking in Continental US. Mine was trucked to Washington (Dulles) & flew to the UK as 'indulgence freight' on a homecoming part empty RAF transport (one of the few perks left in Govnt service!) so I had no freight charges at all (I even got an RAF friend to deliver it from Brize Norton in Oxford to my back door in his Volvo!) VAT is a different story and to clear UK customs I had to pay the full 17.5% on the invoice. In round figures I paid about £1750 (less VAT) for a lightened/balanced 350 with Edelbrock RPM Plus cam, torker manifold, RPM Heads MSD ignition & distributor. When it came to the gearbox (Tremec) the UK (Repower) deal seemed cheaper.......:P

RE: Has anyone imported an engine from Engine Factory.com

Hi, Dave.

One of my friends have imported one of the Chevy 350, 390 hp for his Chevy Camaro 73 auto. The engine work pretty well, but we have not checked the real power in a Dino, the service was very good, the delivery fast, and in general he is very satisfy with them.

The only thing is that they do not supply things like gearboxes, cluth, belhouses, exahust manifolds, engine supportd or other parts. But I think that you could make a groupage with this parts supplied by other companies like summit, etc.

I am waiting to have cash for purchasing a Chevy 383 450 HP at the flyweel with the forged pistons power option (plus 30 hp), do you think that a T5 will support the torque of this engine?

Anyway, they have not changed the HP chart after to use the Edelbroc parts, so actually I do not know about the new HP chart.

One interested point for you is since the engines are reconditiones is to check
with them the year of the block, in order not to have problems with the SVA.

Hope this help.

Thanks Jesus.
the T5 is only supposed to be good for around 330ft. pounds of torque, however a Cobra is quit a light car and is more likely to spin the rear tyres than break the box. i would personally go for a stronger box, either a Tremec or a T56 6 speed these boxes are capable of handling 450+ft. pounds of torque and that is spot on for your stroker 383 with 454 ft.pounds of torque that it pumps out.

RE: Has anyone imported an engine from Engine Factory.com

I know someone who is possibly looking to import an engine. Obviously the costs involved are not insignificant. If there were more people interested it should bring the shipping costs down and make it more worth while. Does anyone else want to import from the Engine Factory?

Now that is a good idea, who wants to organise it?
