| RE: jag ujs. It is not normal for UJs to go after 4K even with heavy use - I think Rob (of this website) got more than that when he was regulalrly putting 550 ps through the back axle. Drop him an e-mail and ask how he has managed to keep his UJs together.

| RE: jag ujs. Peter, are we talking about propshaft UJs or driveshaft UJs. If you're talking about the 4 driveshaft UJs, and failure of the needle rollers rather than total failure of the crosspins, then the 'heavy duty'items will not help you at all. They have the same size needle roller sets, but the crosspin is thicker hence stronger for high torque use. Obviously these 4 UJs are a servicable item but in a Cobra application you are using them no differently to how they were used in the Jag they came from. Were they renewed when the car was built?, as old 'scrapper' Jags tend to miss out on the full 'dealer' type service schedule and hence they could have been on the way out when they were fitted originally. Providing they are lubricated correctly (and frequently) they should last 10s of thousands of miles. Russ |

| RE: jag ujs. russ. driveshaft ujs.new when i recon. the back end.all g.k.n.ujs. it was mentioned on my last m.o.t.i checked the hubs for play because i could not find any play left to right.only backwards and forwards but only very small amount.had a frend look under car while pulled and rocked the wheel and he notest the uj. move.its funny but both sides seen to have same amount of play.had a chat with classic spares and was told the heavy duty ones have bigger needles and would be about £18.each. but none in stock. :} |

| RE: jag ujs. Peter, Did you recondition the driveshafts yourself or did you buy a reconditioned axle, if the latter I'm sure that the supplier would repair/replace foc as 4k is no mileage at all. If the former did you buy a premium brand for lots of dosh, or just a generic cheapo brand. John Gordon gives you a choice, the cheap make I was told "will start making ticking noises in about 10,000 miles"... Perhaps you were sold a generic brand from your local motor factors ? Cheers, Tony
