UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

JUST FINISHED THE PANELS IN MAGNOLIA LEATHER,THOUGHT I,D PASS ON A COUPLE OF TIPS ,MAKE A CARD BOARD TEMPLATE TO START WITH. TRY TO ROUND ALL CORNER AS MUCH AS POSS IT MAKES IT MUCH EASIER TO BEND THE LEATHER ROUND CLEANLY,TRY TO USE THE BLUE FOAM IF POSS ITS DENSER AND LASTS LONGER THAN THE WHITE. WHEN CUTTING THE PLY PANELS REMEMBER TO ALLOW FOR THE DEPTH OF THE PIPING.USE SPRAY GLUE AND GLUE BOTH THE PANEL AND THE FOAM THEN STICK TOGETHER AND CUT AROUND USING AN ELECTRIC CARVING KNIFE.I USED 9 MM PLY ,TO HOLD THE FIRST LAYER OF LEATHER ON USE 6MM STAPLES AND TO HOLD THE PIPING ON USE 10 MM STAPLES. TOOK A WHILE BUT ENJOYED DOING THEM,
I,LL POST A COUPLE OF TIPS AND PICS OF HOW I UPHOLSTERED THE SEATS SOON

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

Bilko,

They look the part for sure.

Have you got any pics of the rear of the pockets, interested to see how you did them as this is my next job while waiting for the chassis.

Cheers

Michael

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

Hi Bilko.
My trimmer uses Braces elastic fot the door pocket, it allows for a rouched pocket and still has the strength to pull it tight.

The curve in the top edge of the pocket is intentional.......It's not sagging as it may appear from this angle in the picture.

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

hi dave,thanks for the tip,
I actualy used 2 layers of elastic for the pocket so its highly sprung, the amount of ruchin is ajustable at the beguining of the job obviously not after its stapled in place, i just decided not to have a lot of ruchin.

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

Hi Bilko,

May take you up on that offer, I'm trying to complete my dash and door panels within the next four weeks.

Just trying to source the black leather and red piping, where did you go to get your leather?

I'll also watch this space on your seats as I have shells in the garage but I've also tried to source some pre-done.

Regards

Michael

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

Hi Bilko,

Thanks for info, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Magnolia was my other choice so I may well go for that.

I'll try and charm my way in and see if they'll sell to me then

I have the Dax shells too, so I'm watching even closer now!

Michael

RE: UPHOLSTERING DOOR PANELS

Hi Michael.
If you don't have a "Walking foot " machine you'll never be able to sew them together.
