Never believe a used car dealer...........![]()
COX 5012, an aluminium AC 427 is currently on sale at a UK dealer.
AC Cobra 427 SC MK111
The dealer states that the car was 1966 registered and rebuilt and refurbished by AC Cars in the early 2000s. The reality is somewhat different. I have it on good authority that the body and chassis were built by AC Cars at Frimley around 2002/03 but that Steve Gray of Brooklands Motor Company (now also AC Heritage) put the body on the frame. The car was then completed by Gerry Hawkridge around the end of 2004. The car has a period engine/gearbox and back axle and a 1966 registration.
The previous owner provided full and complete facts about the car when it was first sold.

I believe that to qualify as an original 1966 car then a new body and chassis can be fitted, but the car will retain its original 1966 VIN and should keep its original registration number. Just like all the true original cars that get trashed and rebodied/chassied due to excursions from the track events into the scenery.
As these cars have new VINs then there is something amiss. But we all knew that anyway.

The car went form Private collections to Hofmann's and has now sold ( it's no longer advertised so presume sold ).
Anyone on here buy it?
Correct. I wonder if it might have gone stateside.
I doubt anyone here bought it - i dont think folk from this community (myself included) are in that eschelon of society, unless there was a serious haggle involved.
I phoned 'Private Collections' and the proprietor of the garage who answered told me the Private Collections guy had moved on (= gone bust/downsized i think), so it was gotten rid of as part of that move i think.

hmmm with the way the dollar is performing currently (badly), £200k is $320,000 USD, which seems unlikely for a 2002 Brooklands car, however gorgeous it is, but in the secondhand car sales game, the old rule applies; you only need one buyer...
Maybe it will turn up sometime soon with a new description, and a bit more history
Nice car spoilt by a very misleading description, and if thats the way a dealer operates, they don't deserve to be trading IMHO
P.S Still showing for sale by hoffmans on ph http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2741424.htm

COX 5012 may have been sold now, but I don't know. However it appears that Hofmann's did not have had the full facts about the car's history - the advert posted on their website was the same as the one on the 'Private Collections' website. However I have it on good authority that as soon as Hofmann's was given the full history by those involved in its development/inception, it immediately withdrew the original advert.

I know a man who may well know, will enquire...........
Crendon has left the building................bright yellow Stag has landed.
I look forward to the next chapter with baited breath.....
and, er, dare I say it...... but I have noticed a small problem with the authenticity of the car...... there are Phillips cross-head screws clearly visible.
I believe no such things were used on original cars.
