| DVLA - Registration Hi Guys, Having failed the noise test at SVA back in September and then a head gasket blowing on the M23 on the way home:} :} - and getting a new block and heads, completely re machining everything and totally rebuilding the whole bl**dy thing again:tu I'm hoping to finalise my SVA, first week of February. My question is: have any of you guys ever had your car inspected by the DVLA when registering your car for the road? I know all about providing them with all Invoices/Bills etc but has anyone actually had someone from the Licensing Dept of DVLA crawl all over their car or was it just a cursory glance,if so what did their inspection consist of?. Wish me luck{-} {-} :tu Thanks Guys (and Gals) http://www.cobraclub.com/crcforum/user_files/3409.gif

| RE: DVLA - Registration I personally didn't get mine inspected,I just took the wad of receipts etc. to the DVLA office in Cardiff and they registered it there and then. I did phone them first to ask if they wanted to inspect it and was told no. I know that others have been told that they must have an inspection done and that it can take a day or three to get an appointment. Best of Luck!! http://animatedgif.net/flags/-flags-uncat/Wales.gif Kev Davies Dax, 383ci Chevy Stroker, Tremec TKO South Wales :tu

| RE: DVLA - Registration Must say mine registration was also inspection free just turned up at DVLA (in Sheffield) and gave the guy all the paperwork which he threw on a pile and the registration turned up a few days later. HOWEVER! I was parked at the side of a couple at the Newark show last year who told a sorry tale about the DVLA inspector who came out to check his car over and didn't believe his donor vehicle info a gave him a "Q" plate. If that chap reads this perhaps he could take up the story Sorry to hear about the braek down, if it's any consolation my 383 SBC is on it's third block and fourth re-build........should have stuck with the RV8......perhaps not then! | RE: DVLA - Registration I had my DVLA inspection before the sva test, basically they looked at engine No. and chasis No. and that was about it, I had to trailer it to Northampton to get it done tho`. Doing it this way meant no hold ups for registration and got the reg. No. 25 mins after handing over the Mac certificate Tony.

| RE: DVLA - Registration I took all documents to the local DVLA at Maidstone and arranged to take the car back the same day for inspection. This consisted of the inspector looking at the rivited on chassis plate, and the same number that I had stamped onto the chassis. Within 1/4 hour i had the new reg number allocation form to drive to the local motor factor and get the plates made up. You don't need to trailor the vehicle to the DVLA/SVA/MOT garage. As long as you have arranged these in advance and got the car insured under the chassis number you are Ok as far as plod are concerned. I must have driven mine 220 miles on the combined trips without number plates and never saw a police car anyway.

| RE: DVLA - Registration Hi Keith, I drove to my SVA (Mitcham) and my MOT (Aylesbury) without problems, but I have heard/read that you cant drive to the DVLA I have to get mine registered in Maidstone also, as I am located only 10 miles from you at Hurst Green. We should get together sometime exchange info (over a beer!)?:tu Cheers David http://www.cobraclub.com/crcforum/user_files/3416.gif

| RE: DVLA - Registration I applied for DVLA registration after passing the SVA, what a farce! Tha man came out, checked the chassis number, could'nt see the engine number as the iner wings were fitted, did'nt seem very interested, but a week later recieved my age related plate. Yippee. I did retain all the receipts, as I bought all the parts from breakers, did'nt even have the log book, but I knew the reg. of the donor Sierra, so that helped. Best of luck brian |

| RE: DVLA - Registration I went the other way x( SVA'd the Cob :tu MOT'd the Cob :tu Went to register and got told to bring the car for inspection....and on a trailer as it's illegal to drive it there (he said that he would refuse to inspect it unless it was on a trailer alternativly he was prepared to come to my house and inspect it.....in a few weeks :} :} ) Went for inspection, he checked Chassis Number and Engine Number, had a look underneath to confirm that the doner components were from an XJ6 as per docs ! signed the papers and said.....I'll post the docs/tax disc/reg number later...goodbye (Barsteward :} Reg Number/Tax disk turned up 3 days later, V5 about a week after that Cheers Jim |

| RE: DVLA - Registration Davis, I think you were pushing your luck a bit going from East Sussex to Aylesbury for the MOT without plates! Good luck with the SVA, I hope that you have better luck this time. Tony at Pilgrim and the DVLA told me that it was legal to drive to the DVLA to get the car inspected, so I don't know whether anyone has it in writing about this and perhaps could post it on this Website for the sake of those that follow. Yes, I'm always up for a beer, although if the Cobra is going it'll have to be a bit warmer and drier than it is today. Having said that I went out and did about 70 miles on Saturday(without the hood on!) Let me know when you've had the SVA and we'll fix up a meet. Is there anyone else in the Kent/East Sussex area?
